If you visit Edinburgh, try the Mercure Hotel. It is centrally located and is next to the tram stop, the main train station and the bus terminus. We caught a tram from the airport and it dropped us off less than 100 yards from the hotel. Our room was on the 6th floor facing the castle. Great view and reasonably...

This hotel is right in the centre of Edinburgh. 5 minute walk to the train station, next to the starting point of most tours and the castle is in view from the hotel. Its also a 10 minute walk to the royal mile. The rooms are bright and comfortable with free wifi. The breakfast is very good quality also.

The hotel in slap bang in the middle of Princes Street, it is perfect for the train station, buses, trams and shops. Just a short walk and you're in the middle of the old town and its attractions. The hotel itself needs an upgrade as it is very tired and showing signs of wear.I understand the fourth floor has been refurbished and...

We upgraded to balcony room for 2 nights. The room was smallish but tastefully decorated with large comfortable bed and beautiful bathroom. The balcony gave a great view of Edinburgh Castle and the Sir Walter Scott monument, it's also great for keeping wine chilled in the colder months!. Free wifi worked fine. We were given a good table for dinner...

I stayed there for 4 nights with my parents, we booked a triple room. The room was spacious (I could even do my regular exercise there) and clean. Couldn't find any flaw about the room. Uhm, maybe a plug near the bed would be nice so we can browse our phone while resting in bed. And the view was spectacular!...

One night stay with my partner through a Virgin Holiday Experience. Excellent service on arrival, room upgrade to a castle view, bottle of wine in the room for my partners birthday. All in all a fantastic stay in a fantastically located city centre hotel.

We stayed there for 2 nights. Location is great, right in the center and room has fantastic view to the old town. However, room size is very small with small double bed for 2 persons and uncomfortable pillow. Breakfast is so so. However, I like that they provide free wifi for guests.

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighbourhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
