Very good hotel, central position ideal for local amenities. Staff are very helpful and the choice at breakfast is as good as any hotel which I have used in Britain. Who couldn't wish for the absolutely stunning view of Edinburgh Castle while eating breakfast.

Lovely clean hotel in the middle of princes street. Right in middle of shops and local bars and restaurants behind. Was a bit warm in the room but overlooked the gardens and the castle. Would stay here again.

Good Location and Nice reception, looks nice from the outside but very disappointing inside, it is old and the rooms are run down and generally just not very nice, in desperate need of modernisation..

Stayed in town to meet with business associate. Chose Mecure due to proximity to train station and restaurants. I don't think that in 40 years of business travel I have ever had a room that small. For the rate per day, just felt ripped off. Left after early and got another hotel Restaurant was ok...not great.

I stayed here with my son in a twin room whilst attending a concert at Edinburgh Castle. The cost was £219 for the room. I booked it expecting a nice luxurious night. I was very wrong. First, the good bits. The location is perfect for all central Edinburgh's many attractions. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was...

A short break in Edinburgh and we found ourselves in the Mercure hotel on Princess Street. We have stayed at many Mercure hotel and they have always been very good. Facilities and rooms are ok but nothing worth the room charge. Disappointed with the staff. Was told breakfast was from 6:30-10:00 just to find out that there is no breakfast before 7:00 the next morning. Asked for a wake up call which never came.

The location is ok. But the room is very very small. The gap between the wall and beds is only 15-20cm. There is no space to put bags... very difficult. The room has no aircond. Very hot better not to stay in this hotel and look for other.. i dont believe that this is quality of Mercure..

Great location, friendly staff, but the hotel is badly in need of refurbishment, the rooms are so outdated, no plug sockets next to bed, no air conditioning just a fan, the bathroom was very tired, I can't remember the last time I stayed in a hotel that didn't have a separate shower cubicle.

The location on Princes Street can either be a blessing or a curse. I had a room where the big wheel opposite looked straight into my room so I had no choice but to draw the curtains which made the room very hot ( no air con). But if you want a relaxing night 's sleep I wouldn't recommend it....

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighbourhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
