The hotel was very clean and the beds were comfortable. The staff was incredibly friendly. The location of this hotel is perfect. Easy walking distance to the Castle and and Royal Mile, but not on the main drag, so it was quite a night. In addition, lots of restaurants and pubs right across the street from the hotel.

Dear Guest I was very pleased to read that you found my staff to be "incredibly friendly" and appreciate you mentioning this in your review. With so many hotels in Edinburgh to select from we do try to look after our guests in the hope that they will return the next time they require accommodation in the City. I am...

I can honestly say the services could not be better from the minute we arrived until we left. It was my partners birthday, the hotel has left him a wee note wishing him a great birthday and free drinks. We had a view of the castle amazing. Location is prefect - just love the old town. Would stay in thus...

Absolutely loved this hotel. We stayed in the master suite, it was such a lovely room with a nice view down onto the street where there is plenty of bars. There was also a nice view of Edinburgh castle which is a mere 5 min walk around the corner. My only issue was that the hotel hallway WS very hot!...

Stayed for two nights with 14 work colleagues for business. Nice modern hotel, rooms were good, clean and good shower with plenty hot water at peak times. Breakfast was great with plenty of choice to suit everyone. Hotel was chosen for location right in the heart of Grassmarket with lots of pubs and restaurants nearby. Only took 25 mins to...

Dear Guest It was nice reading that you recently enjoyed a short break with quite a few of your work colleagues. I do hope they all had a good time too? Stayed for 2 nights and the hotel was clean, modern and well equipped. Toiletries were of a reputable brand and lived up to their name. The walk in shower was great and the only notable issue was that the bath was on the small side and so after a long day shopping, you were unable to lie out in it....

Dear Guest Thank you for your kind posting on Tripadvisor. I am glad you enjoyed your stay and your daughter liked our limited edition Christmas duck - "Sprout". We have just returned from a special trip to Edinburgh and have nothing but praise for this hotel. We booked the special advanced purchase price which was fantastic value for three nights. I did request a castle view if possible but did not think that this would happen due to the discounted price. How wrong could I be! We had...

First stay at an Apex hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms was extremely well equipped and included a fridge which is not common in "budget" hotels. Toiletries were of a respected and relatively expensive brand. Ladies will appreciate that there is no need to "hunt-for-the-hairdryer " as it is in a recess on the dresser and has a hinged...

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
