I stayed here for a night with work and have to say that the location is excellent. A lot of the sights in Edinburgh were within easy walking distance and the staff were very friendly. The rooms are a good size with comfortable beds, but the bathrooms are starting to show their age a little bit.
Stayed here for my friends birthday in August! Hotel was lovely & clean, would stay again! great location & friendly staff. Room is a great size, toilet had a fab shower which was a great size! enjoyed my stay here!
I have used this Apex in Grassmarket several times for work and family stays of 1/2 nights. It is reliably clean, modern and comfortable. My preference is to ‘wander’ for breakfast and there are several very good options nearby. My one irritation is parking, this being the first time I have use the hotel when I have a car. Whilst it says there is parking (and I confirmed this via e mail), space is limited. It’s pointless driving into the hotel narrow car park entrance as you will soon find you need to reverse out and go to try their sister hotel’s park down the street. That’s got more spaces, but not great (several very tight spaces) if you have a larger vehicle like a 4x4. The first night we couldn’t get in at all, so ended up in a large public car park that (with hotel discount) came to £15 - would have been £32 otherwise so make sure you ask! - and the second night (having moved the car very early and leaving it there for a whole day) managed to obtain a space in the sister hotel’s car park. The parking issue shouldn’t stop you staying here, but it’s a point you should be aware of.…
Hotel is in a great location overlooking the castle and the pubs/restaurants. Rooms clean and spacious. We did have a problem with the hot water but the hotel sorted this out quickly. They let us shower in another room and refunded us some money. Decent breakfast and good staff.
We spent 2 nights at the hotel. The location was perfect with good access to surrounding tourist attractions. The hotel communal areas were clean and modern. Our room was comfortable, there was some hair in the shower which was a bit off putting and the carpet was a bit stained and not well fitted so a bit of a trip hazard. Bed was comfortable and coffee machine was good. There was noise from outside but I expect this in a central location. Parking is very limited and you pay extra for this. The breakfast was a mixed bag. The restaurant seemed short staffed and they were forgetful and disorganised. We waited over 15 minutes to order. They then brought out drinks, toast and cereal after a further 15 minute wait. As soon as we started to eat the cereal the cooked breakfast arrived. There was no room on the table for all the food. My husband asked if his could be kept warm in the kitchen while he finished his cereal. Another 20 minutes passed and his breakfast had still not returned. The waitress apologised and said she’d forgotten and brought him a very cold breakfast which had clearly just been left in the kitchen but was not kept warm. I asked for salt and pepper and tomato ketchup but this was also forgotten. The toast was cold. This was a similar experience on both mornings so I feel is probably typical of how breakfast is at this hotel which is a shame because the food would be nice if served hot and if the waiting staff were more attentive and less forgetful. Overall I enjoyed my stay but this was really down to the location. I’m not sure I would re book due to the breakfast and a minority of rude staff who really need to improve their customer service skills. One particular receptionist was rude and patronising and she knew exactly how to do this in a way that was difficult to challenge, it wasn’t what she said but they way she said things. If breakfast was run better and staff focussed on customer care I would consider staying again. …
