We stayed here for 2 nights, 3 adults and 2 kids. We had 2 rooms, both were spotlessly clean and very well equipped with everything you could want. We ate one night in the restaurant, which was lovely. Breakfast was also very good: a huge continental choice, plus a lovely cooked menu. The only slight problem that we had with...

Great hotel in a very central location, the rooms are nice and all the little extras are great. We loved the free duck idea and the leisure center and ended up staying in the other Apex hotels around Scotland as we like them that much.

The Apex is smallish and the staff are very obliging and friendly. There is a bigger Apex just along the Grassmarket but I am so pleased I found this one. It is walking distance to the castle. the Royal Mile and all the shops you need. It is also in a very historical part of the city. Front of house...

I don't usually rate chains but this place exceeded our expectations. We stayed in a city double room. The shower room was excellent & we had a huge bed. The curvature of the room was impressive & we had a view of the castle.

When checking in we were informed that they had upgraded our room for us. The reception staff could not have done enough for us. Room was excellent with a large comfortable bed. Bathroom was large and very clean with an excellent shower. Fridge in room was a bonus. View of castle was lovely

The first two nights of our stay were fabulous, we were celebrating our Silver Anniversary. The third night we were awoken at 2330hrs by an American Couple and their friends having a party in their room next to us the music was so loud I thought I was actually in a night club. I called reception at 1230am and explained...

This is a nice efficient functional stop-over for drivers in the heart of the Edinburgh Old Town. It is clean, the room was well equipped, including a Nespresso machine and a very natty little shoe-mitt. The hotel's car park was full, but the adjacent Apex Grassmarket had a space, though neither hotel seems to have EV charging

The location of the hotel is quite good; right in the middle of grass market and a 10 minute walk to the castle. The bed was comfortable and the staff friendly. The only issue we had was with the presence of power drills going for roughly 1.5 hours at 0830. We had stayed out late the night before so we...

Location is very convenient for visiting castle--as long as you like walking up stairs it is only a short distance from train station to walk--- taxi ride from station is approx 4 pound. Shopping really only a short walk away. I was recommended this hotel from a friend and I would certainly recommend to others. 😀

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
