My husband and I stayed for one night - lovely guest house - very clean. Breakfast lovely and staff very friendly and accomodating. Our room was very spacious and plenty of wardrobe space etc. Bathroom spotless and very well equipped with toiletries. Great location for all main central areas and only short taxi ride to Grassmarket. Would recommend and straight...

Guy that checked me in was very pleasant and showed me to my room. Wifi readily available during my stay. However for a four star premises I would expect a greater eye for detail. There was a awful smell on entering the building which met me each time I entered which could be rectified by a diffuser or something equivalent....

I stayed here based on very positive reviews. Though the building is nice and the staff was very pleasant, maintenance seemed a bit poor. Only some of the lights in our room worked or had lightbulbs, the shower drain was clogged, the heated towel rack only worked part of the time and was really dangerously located in the tiny bathroom....

We stayed here for four nights when I was doing a little research at National Library. I was a little concerned what it would be like as it was such a good price. I need not have worried. We booked a basement room to save costs but the room was much nicer than I expected and still had a full...

My Husband 14 yr old son and I shared a first floor rear family room for 3 nights. An impressive old Edinburgh Georgian terrace, in a great location across the road from Haymarket Station and a 10 minute walk from the main shopping streets & attractions. The B&B is comfortable, nice and clean with a lovely lounge/tv/reading area looking out...

Stayed at the Glenora for the 3rd time and not disappointed. So convenient for Haymarket Railway station in Edinburgh (literally almost across the road) . The place is nice and clean (always a plus of course) with friendly helpful staff and a nice breakfast too.

This B&B is very well-located, specially if you rented a car as it is almost a straight line from the airport, and a few minutes from the city attractions. The strongest point is the breakfast served! All carefully prepared and arranged and served by very friendly people. On the negative side, the bathroom is very small, shower water has no...

Fawlty Towers and some. On arrival, hot water coming out of both taps; Intermittent Wi-Fi; asked for twin beds, quiet room high floor - got double room in basement next to kitchen, woken by noisy staff preparing breakfast which surpassed the traffic noise from outside. Buses rerouted here while tram workings going on; dingy rooms and tired furniture and décor;...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
