It may be that this is two hotels, the one in the pictures and the modern block that's added on. My room in the modern bit was no better/worse that a Travelodge and not as good as a Premier Inn. Small room, it was a supposed to be a twin but it barely had room for the beds. Basic bathroom...

Good standard rooms just what I expect from Malmaison. Loved the area for a lot of very good restaurants and bars, use the bus to get into the city its so easy (no point taking your car). The little things in this hotel make it a special place.

Stayed here on Sunday night and loved it! The room was so classy, as were public areas. Shower was powerful, a full sized shampoo was provided, which was great, as in most hotels it's a little one which barely covers my hair! My room looked onto Leith Docks, lovely view. The room was bright - with natural light as well...

Paid 200 pounds for a standard twin room, expensive! The room was nice, clean but that's about all, same as a travel lodge. No complimentary biscuits or bottled water, shower in a bath, view of a building wall. This could be better. I would not stay again, next time it would be the Balmoral or the George or for a...

After arriving late from the airport and the foyer being full of a recently arrived coachload of foreign non english speaking tourists all trying to change rooms and check in- I was politely greeted and served by a very nice young man on reception. I was allocated the room in the clock tower which was palacial and had great views...

Was recently at the restaurant, attending a study evening and had a 3 course meal. This was extremely disappointing. There were only 14 of us eating, it was a set menu and the main course was Fillet of Beef Au Poivre. Those who had their steak well done had nearly finished by the time the rest of us were served....

We were in Edinburgh for a few days, I initially thought this would have been closer to the city centre but its about 5-10 minute drive out. Beautiful location. The rooms are average, I expected more for a malmaison hotel. The floorboards creaked whenever anyone walked past our room and when we wanted to go to the bathroom. Overall a...

Really poor standard of rooms for a Malmaison hotel. I have stayed in a few. Very disappointed with the room we were given, after changing rooms two times we just agreed to the final room as we were tired and fed up. Don't waste your money on this hotel, you would be better off staying at a budget hotel, at...

Stayed here in a number of occasions and always welcoming and attentive staff, Hotel rooms are to a good standard as you would expect from Malmaison, a little quirky Especially if you opt for one of the suites. Rooms can be found for a very reasonable price if booking in advance and the brassiere is also excellent. Only downside is...

This hotel is definitely not worth the high prices and I would recommend not eating from the restaurant in the hotel as the food is very basic and there are nicer restaurants on the same street. The rooms were dark and quite old looking. The area was nice but when I go back I will undoubtedly stay at another hotel...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
It's the mother of all Malmaison's. The former house of ill-repute now has a reputation that's second to none, and it's also just a short taxi ride away from Waverley Station. Malmaison Edinburgh bides at Leith (as they say up here), just a stone's throw from the Royal Yacht Britannia, but offering far more funky luxury. Yes, when you want exciting hotels in Edinburgh, this is the King, not the castle. Our Edinburgh hotel puts you close to all of Edinburgh's cobbled splendours, incredible shopping and famous galleries. Then it's back to Mal for Scots dining with a twist, a fine selection of single malts and mojitos in the bar and then back to the slinkiest and most spectacular rooms in the Scots capital. ... more   less
