Really nice hotel. Friendly and warm staff. Hotel meals were excellent. Kid meals great too. Bar prices slightly on the steep side for spirits though. Really close the Waverley train station too so very handy for couples with kids and luggage in tow.

Excellent hotel, staff very friendly and efficient, accommodation very clean and spacious. Hotel location excellent for when visiting city centre, royal mile or Edinburgh Castle as everything close by.

All in all you get what you pay for. Staff were excellent and very helpfull. Hotel is overall basic and dated but room was clean and comfortable. Same could not be said for the bathroom which was in a bit of a sad state and not very clean. Would also benefit from slightly better soundproofing in wall and windows but...

I am very impressed with the service and the staff of this hotel. The lady who checked us in (i am sorry i didnt quite catch her name) went above and beyond for us throughout our stay (offering us a room with a beautiful view and late check out for no extra charge). We checked out on the 28th of...

Booked a one night stay as a stop over in part of a trip. Out of all the hotels we stayed in this was always going to be the lower end. We only paid £62 for the room only as we wanted to be in the city and knew we didn't need to eat here so can only comment on...

We chose this hotel for its great position, in front of Waverley train station and just a few meters on foot from the Royal Mile. The room was quite spacious and nice at first sight, but in the evening we noticed that it wasn't very clean. Indeed, the bedside cabinets were a bit dirty (we covered them with tissues), there...

Noise thoughout the night from work men working on the railway track across the road. When I got into my room and went into the bathroom it had hair around the bath and dirty stains on the bathroom door. My hotel telephone did not work.

Hotel fairly clean some cosmetic detail needed, breakfast was good value for money with plenty of choice. The rooms were spacious and tidy. Staff seemed friendly enough. Not too happy with security of lifts allowing anyone off the street to use them . They were supposed to only operate using your room key but we didn't need to use it....

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
