For a boutique hotel it felt large and impersonal. It has 49 rooms and it felt like there were more, always lots of people around. Our room was as described (22 square metres including the bathroom) but was so over-furnished there was no room for us. Why does a room this small need a kingsize bed, 2 bedside tables, a...

Can't find anything negative to say about this hotel. Every person wants a decent night's sleep especially when away from home. This is it! I stayed here twice, 10 days apart. First stay found me in a room on the top floor. Comfortable, spotlessly clean, excellent water pressure, piping hot water shower, clean remote control for TV. The second stay...

The Bonham afternoon tea is excellent. We have been on several occassions and have just booked again, the staff have always been excellent and the food is really good plenty of it as well. My only comment and I have said this before on a couple of reviews that the leather armchairs need to be re-covered they are very shabby...

Stayed on a business trip for 2 nights in August. Whilst the room was a bit small and a little awkward to work in, it was spotless, quiet and otherwise very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent with both buffet and hot food to order. Super location as well. I would recommend the hotel more for pleasure than business.

Really did not think I would write the review I am writing after reading some really good reviews about this hotel I wanted to love it. The hotel lies in the Georgian area of the west end of Edinburgh so therefore I take on board it is an older property and no double glazing, but it is charming on the...

The Bonham is superbly positioned, only 5 mins walk from Princes Street and it has parking for the car at the back (but be careful you don't block other cars in). The room, although called 'petite', was a good size with high ceilings, quiet, with a good view of the Forth from large sash windows. The hotel is 3 large...

Bought Afternoon tea voucher and went there with a friend. The staff were nice and polite, but they seem to have some communication issues. Even though I told that my friend was vegetarian at the time of booking, we were given non-vegetarian sandwiches. When we complained, the staff said the chef would make some if we could wait for 20...

Stayed at this hotel for a weekend break after staying at its sister hotel in Glasgow which is nice and modern. The hotel is about 20 minutes from the airport, and about 5-10 minutes taxi to the castle so its not a bad location on a quiet square. As you enter the old house you got to the small reception...

This is a boutique hotel with an impressive entrance and elegant, dark decor. The rooms were lovely and typical in size though the bathroom was pretty dated. Staff were very friendly. Location was perfect with a 20 min walk to the top of the hill with Edinburgh castle. When we got lazy we would taxi for only 7pounds or so....

This was on a deal (which I didn't pay for) so was a "free lunch" for me which may make this review a bit bias! Nice big glass of prosecco to start then some lovely sandwiches (generous amounts), 2 wee scones with cream and jam and a selection of wee cakes which were all lovely. We couldn't manage the 2nd...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
