Been a number of times to the witchery. A very special place within romantic setting and environment. Food is fantastic and service is excellent. A wonderful place for a special occasion. Bookings only. Looking forwards to visiting again

Our food took ages to arrive after ordering it, when we asked the manager he told us a steak took time to be cooked.. I don't think a 1 hour wait after the appetizers is normal. The manager was rude and cocky, definitely not a place to enjoy with friends. We had a very uncomfortable experience when we went to...

Although our meals were nice it was very expensive for what you got. It was not good value for money. The steak was £40 but you needed sides dishes that were all £4-5 each. The lamb Wellington did come with sides. The waiter needed some prompting to bring some items. They also gave me a large dessert wine (I ordered...

My friend had been wanting to visit this place for 16 years so I booked well in advance and we were so excited about our visit . The building is amazing magical gothic and dark and very impressive . The place is a dining experience and I feel not just about the food . The staff also were friendly professional...

I stayed here with my husband on the evening of our wedding reception in the Sempill Suite and we absolutely loved it! The Suite was just absolutely stunning and the staff provided a first class service. We cannot wait to come back and stay in the other suites.

My partner and I visited The Witchery by the Castle at the weekend and found that the food was delicious. We had the scallops and lobster bisque to start and lamb Wellington for main. We couldn't fault the food at all, flavour was amazing and it was all cooked extremely well. The taste couldn't be faulted and it was also...

My first visit to the witchery was a birthday present for my 21st. I've been back several times and it never disappoints! Food, rooms and staff are amazing! Historic and quaint. Some will tell you haunted... I always recommend the witchery to friends and family visiting Edinburgh. Can't wait till my next visit....

My Wife and I treated ourselves to a visit to the Witchery during our festive visit to Edinburgh. The Hotel and the Secret Garden are truly stunning and the service is everything that we had hoped for. Unfortunately the food wasn't. We opted for the festive menu and whilst it was well served and presented, the food was basic and...

Maybe my expectations were too high. The building itself is lovely. The room is decorated in over the top castle motif. The bed was fairly comfortable. The tub was very relaxing but the end where you rest your head is situated right in between the toilet and the bidet. The lighting in the room was horrible and it was challenging...

We thoroughly enjoyed an meal in the delightful surroundings of the secret garden. The food was delicious and the set menu at £36 was extremely good value.,the staff were attentive without being intrusive.

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
