Week long vacation with this hotel as the base of operations. The rooms are really nice (we had a Castle View King), although my wife was not a fan of the bathroom (more on that later). The room was very clean and updated, the desk also doubles as a vanity (the hair dryer is actually found in the desk drawer),...

We had a view of the castle from our room which was delightful to wake up to and see at night as well. A few blocks from main promenade with lots of shops. Rooms are normal European size but very modern, clean, and fresh. Had connecting rooms for the 4 of us... Breakfast buffet was bountiful. Service was great as...

I have stayed here before and again found this an excellent hotel for business trips. The Restaurant is good for both breakfast and evening meal and the rooms are comfortable. There is a split level with the front of the hotel facing the square one level above reception and taxis at the rear/side; but once you get your bearings it's...

Very enjoyable stay in a nice hotel but the 'executive double' room was no more than I would expect for a good quality double room in other hotels and was expensive for what it was. We actually wonder if we were placed in the incorrect room for the size etc versus the price we paid. Lovely staff, good breakfast and...

The Sheraton Grand Hotel and Spa is a very modern and clean hotel. It is convenient to the major Edinburgh attractions such as the Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile, Princes Street, and both the Waverly and Haymarket train stations. The rooms are clean and modern with a flat screen TV and modern bathroom fixtures. I came with my sister and...

One of the better Sheraton properties, we stayed here a year ago and have recommended this property since, the location is excellent, they could do with a makeover on the outside. On the inside its every bit a starwood property with a good indoor pool area and having access to the lounge for the evening cocktails was fun too!!

A few oft colleagues stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. They were amazed not just by the rooms and the hotel but the fact it was so well placed and so well priced as well. Previously they've stayed elsewhere and the comment around the hotel was how friendly and polite the staff were. They would all recommend to stay...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
