As others also have writen, staff, breakfast and charm is 5 stars. Also had a wonderfull night of sleep. There is however street noose and you have to be a fan of the "dated" style to give it 5 stars. But very charming and good value. Worth a repeat.

Central in New Town Edinburgh this boutique hotel provides a service that far exceeds its exterior. Created out of a terrace of three houses the 18 rooms are beautifully fitted and the butler service is impeccable. Maybe not as impressive as most 5* establishments The Howard works hard to provide the personal service at sensible prices. It is well worth...

I am reading some of these reviews and I am wondering where some of these guests were staying! My husband and I stayed at this hotel in November of 2014 for four nights. Our experience would be that the staff, breakfast and bath products are five star but the premises definitely are not. The hotel's decor is very tired and...

I am grateful for the kind words regarding our staff, service and food but am disappointed to read that this guest felt our building was not five star. Especially as we are in the middle of a programme of refurbishing our bedrooms and have totally renovated our bar and lounge area. Leon Kiteley General Manager

We booked this hotel at the last minute and found it just delightful. Lovely pleasant staff and excellent service. Breakfast was very tasty and the hotel was very comfortable. I would stay there again! The city centre was very convenient and all the shops were within walking distance.

Stayed for two nights at the Howard and our experience was great. Brilliant breakfast, friendly staff and very clean, well decorated rooms. Excellent location for sight seeing in Edinburgh. Would definitely stay there again and would recommend to anyone visiting. The bedroom was comfortable and beautifully decorated and presented. The toiletries supplied are also among the best I've seen in...

Great room, amazing bathroom, service first class. Can't believe the negative comments on here. The breakfast was absolutely top class and we loved the fact they would park the car for you. We booked on late rooms and it was great value. Loved it.

I booked a two nights' stay at the Howard when I was in Edinburgh for a business trip. The good: - The hotel is conveniently located in the New Town. - The check-in was quick and efficient and the receptionist was friendly. - The double room was large and comfortable. The bathroom in particular was stunning. I liked how large...

Lovely hotel, beautiful room and gorgeous food, however what I was blown away by was the service. I travel a lot with work but don't generally get the chance to visit Edinburgh, I am usually based in the Glasgow office when in Scotland, however I was so impressed with the service at this excellent hotel I would be tempted to...

This small, beautifully decorated hotel is in a row of Edwardian townhouses on a wide cobbled street. On arrival, one of the butlers took our case into the hotel and valet parked our car while we checked in. The welcome from the butler and the receptionist was so polite and friendly. We were given the Fettes Suite which was truly...

Together with friends,8 of us booked Afternoon Tea at the Howard on 29th December. The lady who made all the arrangements visited the Hotel well in advance and requested we be allowed to have our tea in the Bar area as it contained nice seating rather than the usual room which was cold and characterless . This was agreed but...

A disappointing, and highly unusual review, for Afternoon Tea at The Howard and my apologies to this guest that all was not as anticipated. Feedback from Afternoon Tea is universally excellent and December was our busiest ever month so I am surprised to read that we dropped the ball in terms of food quality here - will address this with...

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
