A rare opportunity for me and my husband to have a night away from our two kids led us to book a night at the Howard. Being from Edinburgh I wanted somewhere a little bit away from the hustle and bustle of the old town. We booked a petite double via laterooms and arrived with no expectations of anything less....

Many thanks for the kind words regarding the Howard and I am glad to read how much you enjoyed your time with us. Apologies for the issue with the Wi-Fi, this was due to a hardware fault which has been rectified. Leon Kiteley General Manager

Excellent in every aspect. A comfortable, welcoming country house hotel in the city. Our room, Hanover, was large and well appointed as was the bathroom. Service from all staff was first class. 33 years ago, we had our honeymoon at the Howard. We hope it will not be long until we return.

My stay at the hotel was outstanding. I stayed in the Abercromby suite; the room was spacious and beautiful. The service was exceptional and I was thoroughly impressed throughout my stay. Highly recommend this hotel when visiting Edinburgh.. A true 5 star experience!

Beautiful hotel. Staff were excellent in all departments, made to feel special. Congratulations to the chef for serving amazing dishes with great quality ingredients. Location is great, walking distance to city centre, it also has a good range of pubs nearby. Can't wait to return on my next special occasion...

We spent two nights at the Howard in the Trinity Suite. We had our own entrance on the lower ground floor, which was perfect for coming and going at any time of day. The Butlers was great at helping us plan our days and nights, and their recommendations on good eateries and places of interest were spot on. The Trinity...

Stayed here for two nights for my birthday weekend in Edinburgh. We were in the Fettes room which was lovely, we like old and traditional so this Hotel suited us. If you are looking for a chic, modern hotel then this probably isn't for you. Our room was very spacious with a huge bathroom with a great bath and shower,...

We stayed here for my birthday and my husband was rather impressed with himself that he'd booked such an outstanding hotel. The look of the hotel is lovely and it was very clean. The location is rather far out and a walk up a steep bank to Princess Street. We booked the junior suite as nothing higher was available. When...

This was our first visit to Edinburgh and The Howard is a perfect place to stay to be within walking distance of the castle and shopping areas. We stayed in the Trinity room which made me say 'Wow' when we walked in. The room has a lounge area with a sofa and chair and a large TV. The bed was...

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
