This hotel really is quite excellent. The staff were lovely, the rooms were very spacious and comfortable, the butler service for complimentary refreshments (and shoe cleaning) was exquisite (easily the best shortbread I have tasted), the breakfast was fantastic, and the hotel is in a very good location. If you get the opportunity, you must stay at this hotel.

Wow! What a find! I'm almost reluctant to share this treasure with you ... in case too many others book it when next we want to stay at the Howard. Quite simply, this small, impeccably run and luxurious hotel is the best city break hotel experience on the planet! My wife discovered it online - "offpeakluxury.com", I think? - and...

We stayed in The Howard in February and had an amazing time. Hotel staff were welcoming & even upgraded us to a suite on arrival for free. The suite was elegant and warm, with a grand bed. Everything about the hotel was 5* and real value for money. The location is a 10min stroll from Princess Street. Easy to find...

Full Scottish breakfast was amazing, Marcin was so friendly and polite the whole time he is great for the atmosphere. If you like modern gadget bustling hotels this isn't for you. Embrace it for being relaxing, didn't feel like I was in hotel. Room was large, slept like a log both nights and enjoyed the boutique style and quirkiness. It...

Our stay at the Howard was an excellent experience. The service and staff were top shelf. Everyone was extremely friendly and we did not want for anything. Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
