Lessons in Leadership: Just come back from Edinburgh where I stayed at the Waldorf Astoria, my wife ordered a coffee when it arrived it was not to her taste the restaurant manager replaced the coffee immediately and apologised to her, his words prompted me to write this. He said “I am sorry for the experience you have had it should...

Everything about the Caledonian is excellent, from the graduer and history to the modern facilities encourporated into the building. It is an experience by itself with the bars and restaurants, let alone its location to enjoy Edinburgh and well worth the money.

We stayed for just one night at this lovely hotel. Parking is easy and, at checkout, is discounted. We paid £19 for over 24 hours' parking and could stay beyond the time of checking out. The hotel is at one end of Prince's St and some rooms have a view of the Castle. The rooms were spacious, clean and very...

Fab stay, central, staff very helpful, however drinks a little pricey in bar compared to other bars. Really enjoyed breakfast, breakfast staff are outstanding no queuing, seated, not rushed and food is excellent!

The long term staff, especially the concierge, were, as usual, fantastic for what was booked as a celebratory trip. The breakfast staff and the chef were very helpful, and catered well for a baby and a dairy allergy. The hotel services were not as integrated as one would expect for a hotel of this rating. For example, we were grateful...

Had a fantastic stay, staff extremely helpful and facilities first class as you would expect from the Caledonian. Upgraded to a castle view premier king room which was ideal for a 3 night stay and would recommend.

We went for a night to celebrate our Anniversary and no better choice was Caledonian Waldorf Astoria! The receptionist was very attentive, professional and friendly at the same time. She booked a table for the Brasserie restaurant and she mentioned it was our anniversary so we found a letter with the wishes, it was lovely! The room spacious and full...

Stayed here last as a Hilton premise with great promise from an upgrade to the Waldorf Astoria brand. However was disappointed from the outset! Although I'm accepting of the fact that Honors diamond doesn't get you far at Waldorf Astoria properties (I generally avoid if possible unless the hotel is outstanding) - the Caledonian goes further by trying to strip...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - The Caledonian, or the "Caley" as it has become affectionately known among Edinburgh folk, was and still is the epitome of style and excellence. The large, rose-coloured Permian sandstone facade, quarried in Dumfries, dominates the skyline of the city's west end. The hotel has not only remained a focal point for more than one hundred years, but a symbol of the very best of Scottish hospitality. The Caley's pivotal position at the very heart of Edinburgh has always been its greatest asset. Created out of the 19th century railway boom, the five star hotel is looking to the future with confidence and pride in its ability to keep pace with the times. The hotel's reputation is as justified now as it was when the hotel first opened its doors in 1903. ... more   less
