Very accommodating staff, efficiently run, would definitely stay there again. The hotel is geographically located to many sites and restaurants. We as usual travelled all night and our room was available for early check in as we had e mailed before we left which made the stay even that more enjoyable

I booked a night stay at Waldorf Astoria, it was a great surprise when they upgraded us to a one bedroom suite. We were shocked and elated at the suit, it was beautiful. My six year old loved that we had two television so he can watch his children's channel in peace. The suit had everything, it felt like home....

The Caledonian is a grand old hotel with a great location close to Edinburgh Castle and I had a big room with an exceptional view of it. The food was very good. I had breakfast, lunch and dinner at three different restaurants and the food and service was good at each. Liked the spa as well that is in the...

Stayed for 9 nights in room 500. The views of the castle are excellent and the room was spacious and well appointed. The in room amenities are excellent as well as the evening turn down service. All dealings with staff were excellent and all went out of their way to make our stay top notch right down to the bellmen...

Splendid ambience and absolutely faultless service from staff - both in reception, concierge, hotel rooms and the restaurant. My wife and I loved the swimming pool and fitness facilities. We had a fifth floor room accessed by any of three lifts and then a very wide carpeted corridor. It is a historic building so old windows but being high up...

This is my third visit to Edinburgh and this is the best hotel I've stayed in. Very conveniently located to shopping and other sites in the city. My room was very clean, quiet and had free wifi. Beds were extremely comfortable. The staff were very helpful - truly top notch! Amazing value as it was about the same (or cheaper)...

Attended a corporate dinner dance here and was very impressed. The place itself is wonderful and opulent staff throughout were exceptionally helpful and pleasant. Dinner was served in a very professional manner. Facilities including bars and toilets were first class. Could not recommend even stopping for a drink in one of the lovely bars highly enough

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - The Caledonian, or the "Caley" as it has become affectionately known among Edinburgh folk, was and still is the epitome of style and excellence. The large, rose-coloured Permian sandstone facade, quarried in Dumfries, dominates the skyline of the city's west end. The hotel has not only remained a focal point for more than one hundred years, but a symbol of the very best of Scottish hospitality. The Caley's pivotal position at the very heart of Edinburgh has always been its greatest asset. Created out of the 19th century railway boom, the five star hotel is looking to the future with confidence and pride in its ability to keep pace with the times. The hotel's reputation is as justified now as it was when the hotel first opened its doors in 1903. ... more   less
