A special thanks to everyone working there during our stay, the experience I had was fantastic and I would love to stay again. From the concierge and front desk to the spa everyone couldn't wait to help. The facilities are first class and I enjoyed using the swimming pool and steam room, unfortunately the sauna was out of action but...

Had a lovely stay at The Caledonian. It is in a perfect location with a picturesque view of the castle. Our elegant twin premium room was oversized with two closets and a grand marble bath. Just outside our door in the hall was a piano and our son delighted other guests with a mini jazz piano concert. The service is...

An amazing hotel full of history and interesting points. Rooms all based on the history of Waldorf Astoria and Edinburgh and so nicely delivered. All rooms very well equipped and with everything you'd expect. Top hotel and worth a treat or stretch of expenses!

Magnificent views and outstanding staff! Perfect check-in with beautiful rooms with a view. A classic old school hotel - highly recommended. Dinner was outstanding, concierge helpful and the entire staff friendly.

The Caledonian has been beautifully refurbished by Hilton, with stylish decor that is both grand but pleasant to the eye. The staff are universally friendly. Our room was a good size, the bed very comfortable. We only ate breakfast at the hotel, but the buffet was very good indeed. It is perfectly located near the castle. Definitely the best hotel...

This hotel is fondly called by the locals the Caley. It is an iconic landmark in a wonderful city. Very convenient to the attractions, food, and shopping. The room we stayed in was absolutely huge. The pool stays open until 10 pm so we could relax with a swim at the end if the day. Every staff member was extremely...

For a pair of special occasions we pushed the boat out and took a junior suite overlooking the castle and which was on the top floor. The cost was quite steep but the quality of the room, the fixtures and fittings and the general comfort of the room were all from the top drawer. We had a very agreeable lounge...

We loved the hotel! The level of service started out very high with a very helpful porter going out to our car, which my husband was waiting in the car around the corner, to get our luggage while I was checking in! And it continued to be excellent through out our stay!

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - The Caledonian, or the "Caley" as it has become affectionately known among Edinburgh folk, was and still is the epitome of style and excellence. The large, rose-coloured Permian sandstone facade, quarried in Dumfries, dominates the skyline of the city's west end. The hotel has not only remained a focal point for more than one hundred years, but a symbol of the very best of Scottish hospitality. The Caley's pivotal position at the very heart of Edinburgh has always been its greatest asset. Created out of the 19th century railway boom, the five star hotel is looking to the future with confidence and pride in its ability to keep pace with the times. The hotel's reputation is as justified now as it was when the hotel first opened its doors in 1903. ... more   less
