It was a disappointing stay for our honeymoon. Bath rails in the toilet was broken. A stray pube left behind from a previous guest was not cleared away in the toilet during our 3 day stay there. Daily water was not given during housekeeping and have to phone guest services for water. Bedroom slippers were missing from the room and...

Booked the Carriage room for a one night stay. Usual Hilton welcome by friendly staff. The Carriage room has the look, feel style and ambience of staying in an old steam train carriage. If you are booking this room then be prepared for a very high window with automatic blind, dark features (black walls) small sink in bathroom. It is...

Booked this as a final Christmas/New Year blow out for the hubby and I. We stay couple times a year in Edinburgh, enjoy a nice restaurant, drinks and an evening away from our kids, and have stayed in some lovely places. Most better than the Waldorf. It's lovely, don't get me wrong. It's a beautiful historic hotel, clean, comfortable rooms...

Room 169- AVOID we arrived on 30th Dec 2016 having been married earlier in the day. There were 4 members of staff on reception but only 2 seemed to be dealing with arrivals. We stood in the queue whilst a member of staff took our small case and placed it out of the way. When we had checked in we...

Where do I even start?? Generally speaking most rooms in Europe are pretty small, but the room my friend and I stayed in blew me away! We had a room facing the castle with two double beds. The room and bathroom was spacious and the turndown service was lovely. The hotel has a spa/fitness center... the hot tub was not...

Recently stayed here for one night with two friends in a double double room (2xdouble beds) with a castle view!! The castle view was stunning and definitely worth the small extra charge! The room and bathroom was equally as stunning and huge! Knowing it is an iconic hotel the room exceeded expectations as sometimes can be dated, but this wasn't...

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The family room was huge with 3 windows overlooking the top end Princes Street and great views looking over the Forth towards Fife. The breakfast was very tasty and the gym, sauna, pool were great.

The room we originally booked was listed as a Premier Queen Room at 239 GBP per night. However, when we were shown to our room, it was furnished with a very small double bed, certainly much smaller than we had expected for a room listed as a "Premier Queen." We asked for an upgrade to a room with a bigger...

From the moment you pull up outside you know and feel that you're at a first class hotel. Everyone on staff, from the doorman to the front desk, was extremely polite, courteous and helpful. The rooms were nicely decorated and very comfortable with many extra luxery items you would expect. There were a few minor items (see pictures) we saw...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - The Caledonian, or the "Caley" as it has become affectionately known among Edinburgh folk, was and still is the epitome of style and excellence. The large, rose-coloured Permian sandstone facade, quarried in Dumfries, dominates the skyline of the city's west end. The hotel has not only remained a focal point for more than one hundred years, but a symbol of the very best of Scottish hospitality. The Caley's pivotal position at the very heart of Edinburgh has always been its greatest asset. Created out of the 19th century railway boom, the five star hotel is looking to the future with confidence and pride in its ability to keep pace with the times. The hotel's reputation is as justified now as it was when the hotel first opened its doors in 1903. ... more   less
