Don't expect too much if staying here. Rooms are austere. You will not wish to spend any time in them. On a plus side the bed was clean and comfy! Having previously stayed in budget hotels such as premier inn I expected more! We were given a room on floor level -2. I found it dark and not somewhere I...

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We feel that we offer all that is needed for a comfortable night’s stay. This includes a clean room, comfortable bed, tea and coffee facilities, flat screen T.V and an en suite bathroom. We do not provide extras which other hotels may provide so we can keep our room rates...

Came for a work trip with colleagues. Right in the centre next to the station and only £50 a night, bargain. Very basic facilities, but room is clean and comfortable, and very spacious! Staff excellent. Very quiet too at night, was worried the road or the city would keep me up but it didn't. Brilliant place. Will return.

This was our second visit, fab location within easy walking distance of Waverley station. Hotel was clean, beds comfy and showers powerful and plenty hot water. Reception staff were welcoming and friendly. Will definitely go back.

The hotel is a budget hotel very clean and the room is comfortable. Near to the railway station and very central you can walk to any place. Pep and Fodder's is a nice coffee very close to the hotel where you can eat an excelllent breakfast.

Stayed night after Ward Thomas concert. Staff very friendly. Room clean and comfortable. No other amenities in hotel so may be best for one night / short break. Go next door to Pep and Fodder for breakfast rather than purchase a breakfast box.

The hotel is in a perfect location, on the end of Princes Street and less than 5 mins. walk from tram and railway station. Our room ( 223) overlooked two busy streets but enabled you to see Edinburgh without disturbing our sleep. The room was very clean, fresh and light. All reception staff were pleasant and helpful particularly Alan. The...

We stayed here in March for a weekend break and were lucky to have good weather. Very near to Waverly Bridge and train station (approx 5 mins walk). Nearest DECENT pub about 5 mins walk (Guildford arms) . 10 mins walk from Royal Mile etc. Location is great therefore. Room a little small but comfortable and clean and what you...

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
