Just stayed the one night but this is a great place to stay . Very close to city centre, and very handy for bus and rail connections. Plenty of places to eat and drink just a walk away. As Christmas village was there it was a great bonus.

Maybe we were unlucky with our allocated room after seeing previous reviews. Our room was dated, small and not that clean. On entering the room it was like an oven, maybe a lot of people would be glad of this, however, not my idea of pleasant. The damp smell was awful. The bathroom was in need of a proper clean... More

This hotel is close to the station meaning you dont have far to trek with your bags. Hotel is willing to store bags until you can check in, meaning you are free to explore straight away without being weighed down. It is basic but all i needed it for was somewhere to sleep after shopping all day. Clean and tidy.

Great base for a trip to Edinburgh, 2 minute walk to Princes Street and lots of eating and drinking places within easy reach. Room was clean and tidy. On checking in noticed only 1 bath towel i had hardly said the words and there was a chap at the door with a bath towel - brilliant! Staff were great asked... More

This Travelodge has a perfect quiet location minutes from both Princess street and the old town. Very clean, not very large room but it was perfect for our overnight stay. Check in and out was quick and efficient. We had tea/coffee making facilities often missing in budget hotels like easyjet. Although available on request I would have liked a hair... More

Hotel very clean, staff were very polite and approachable. Our room was clean and cosy ( was freezing outside). Most of all it was a great central location for all our needs for a night away. Value was great too!

We stayed here for 3 nights for a city break. The hotel is in a great location for the main city sights and facilities. Due to the surrounding buildings in Edinburgh and the fact that we were in a lower floor room, the lighting could have been better. The room was, however clean and comfortable. The staff were very friendly... More

Very friendly and helpful staff (especially Neil) I arrived unexpectedly early and was allowed to check-in, very clean hotel / room - comfortable bed, everything I needed was in the room - no bells and whistle - but it priced to reflect this. Discounted parking nearby, I would definitely use again

Stayed here Thursday 10th November 2016 through to Sunday 13th November 2016. Paid for early check in as was arriving at 11.15 am we were able to check even earlier than early check in!! Room was exceptionally clean, warm and quiet. Very good value for money. 5 minute walk from Waverley Train Station.

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
