I turend up with my mother to the hotel as I had made a booking for this weekend in April. When I arrived the hotel was in disrepair and all shut up. I could not get hold of anyone on the phone and when I checked the website I found it had been taken over new management in July. I... More

Contacted this hotel to confirm a booking which had been made several months ago for this weekend. Was told by a very aggresive and obnoxious man that all bookings had been cancelled when the new management took over a few months ago. I had not been notified and had I turned up when I was due to - on the... More

This is not a hotel. It is primarily a cocktail bar with 4 apartment rooms. Our room was on the 2nd floor next to the men’s toilet. There was another room next to the ladies’ toilet and 2 rooms in the attic. The bar is open until 1am every night and for some unknown reason had music playing loudly from... More

My partner and I stayed here for two nights and it was 100% enjoyable. The staff were friendly, professional and helpful and the Hotel a great standard. We ate in the restaurant on the Saturday night and the food was amazing and good value for money. We'll definitely be back as we enjoy visiting Edinburgh and a lovely hotel was... More

I purchased a special offer voucher to stay at this hotel through the Itison website which was for an overnight stay and a three course meal. The voucher was valid until the end of November. On checking the hotel's own website I confirmed they had rooms available for a Sunday night in October. I phoned them to book one room... More

We were given an overnight stay and 3 course dinner at this hotel as a wedding gift, however, when we arrived we were told that the hotel had recently been taken over and they didn't intend to honour the booking. The new owner was not even on the premises and was phoned by a member of the bar staff, and... More

rooms were dirty, apparent manager was rude/obnoxious/patronising, simply requests were not met and when we asked for these requests to be met we were asked to leave the hotel!!!! this was at 01.30 in the morning and we were 80miles from home!!!! Shocking hotel and definately will not return!

Not what you might expect from a typical hotel eg no reception desk etc. However rooms are a good size and nicely furnished. The bathroom was huge and had a really good shower. I also like the way you get your own fridge in the room and some of the rooms have a small kitchen area. I think we got... More

My wife & I stayed at the Metropolitain for an overnight break. We had booked a b&b with dinner deal & although this was very reasonable unfortunately we still felt short changed! Before we arrived at the 'hotel' we telephoned countless times to confirm our booking but only ever got an answerphone. Despite leaving a message we got no response... More

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
