Bare room, no hairdryer, overlooked by buildings opposite, too warm, no breakfast but you can get it at The Rosehip cafe next door. Shower worked well, bed was comfy. I don't like grey and old towels and sheets and that's what you get here. Cleaning could be better. Shower tray ingrained with dirt in the grooves of the tray. Dusty...

The hotel couldn't be located better, right on Rose Street, one of Edinburgh's best streets. Friendly reception. The room was basic, but the room and bathroom were spotlessly clean and the bed was comfortable. Street noise was at a minimum. Superb value for money. Definately call back here. Recommended

Went as a family of 4. We tried to rent just one room with two beds but instead we rent it out two rooms yet one of them was clearly capable of having another bed. It had great location, it wasn't too far from the train station nor the tram station that gets you to the airport. The Wi-Fi usage...

Hotel recommended, very good value for money. Central location but quiet. It's not very well equipped, there is no furniture for clothes, only hangers, but for a few days it's okay. Very friendly staff.

Great location and lovely big room, very clean and tidy, would stay here again. Lots of bars and places to eat in the area and great for Princess street shopping, also not too far to walk into the old town.

Very good place to stay in Edinburgh. Our room was big and clean. Better than a hostel in particular for couples. No breakfast but good location to find restaurants. We recommend this place for a short stay.

I booked two rooms. Both rooms smelled of air freshener when we arrived. However, It was manifestly plain that the carpets in both rooms, and the corridors outside, had not seen a vacuum cleaner for a very long time. The carpets were covered in white lint probably from towelling. Travelodge should forget the air freshener, which only covers up bad...

You get what you pay for with a Travelodge, basic room, clean & tidy. I was pleased that there was a kettle in the room, biscuits are not provided. They don't provide breakfast, just a box with juice & snacks you can opt for.

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
