YOTEL Edinburgh garners mixed reviews with its prime location and modern, quirky aesthetic often applauded by guests. However, some visitors have issues with the lack of in-room coffee facilities and the design that compromises privacy, particularly in bathrooms. Although the hotel is celebrated for cleanliness and certain amenities, such as motorized beds and complimentary beverages, the value proposition is a point of contention due to perceptions of high prices, especially when considering room size and breakfast costs.
While some guests praise the attentive staff, others report unprofessional service encounters. The noise level also varies, with some rooms offering a peaceful stay and others disrupted by external sounds.

We enjoyed our stay at YOTEL. Overall, it is a really nice hotel at a reasonable price in an amazing location. It's in the heart of New Town and is less than a 5 minute walk to wonderful restaurants, bars, and coffee shops. It's a spectacular location.
The hotel itself is really nice. The staff are incredibly kind and very thoughtful. The hotel also has a gym, free coffee/tea station, and a large bar for guests to relax at. It was a very welcoming lobby that seemed to create a lovely sense of community.
Our only issue was with the design of the rooms themselves, but that also may just be our preference. The standard room is quite small and the shower and toilet do not have a separate room from the main room. The shower and toilet are in the same room as the bed, but are separated by a case of frosted glass over the shower/toilet. It was a little odd, and did not allow for a lot of privacy. It also made the room feel much more cramped. They do give you VERY generous amounts of shampoo, conditioner, and soap in the shower, which was very lovely & greatly appreciated.
The bed is quite hard and wasn't comfortable to sleep in. The bed is also retractable (it can go up for sitting and down for sleeping). This does help to make more space in the room, but the room is still very compact. We were in a standard queen room.
I've mentioned it a few times, but would really highlight how amazing the location of the hotel is. It's very much worth the stay for the location alone. You will be steps away from many great places to eat, and it's also about a 10-minute walk to the tram if you're coming from/going to the airport. The location is really impressive, especially given how well-priced the rooms are compared to other hotels in the city. The rooms do seem to be smaller, but the hotel does try to make up for it by having fabulous amenities and a really wonderful staff. Overall, would definitely recommend this hotel.

The hotel is in a good location, not too far from Edinburgh Castle, shops and restaurants. The staff were polite and the hotel was clean. The room has a strange layout, no window, the light for the bathroom is by the door into the room, the shower and toilet are separate but the sink is in the main room, so after a shower you dry yourself in full view of your partner! There is a motion sensor in the room which puts on the lights around the TV and the air-conditioning which is annoying if you are asleep and You move and it detects your movement and turns on! There's no tea and coffee in the room like other hotels have as standard but are available in the bar. The breakfast was a joke, the size of the room is far too small for the amount of guests and there was a large queue both days when we stayed. The staff are run ragged trying their best to cope. They are wearing gloves but as they do all the jobs, clearing tables, wiping tables, fetching cleaned cups, plates etc maybe changing the gloves would be good practice! The breakfast items are brought into the room from another room passing by the guests having their breakfast! On both days we had the cooked breakfast and both days my wife found hair in it.

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
We stayed at this hotel from August 15 to 18, on a bed and breakfast basis in room 622.
The hotel is located in the new part of the city and close to places of interest.
The hotel is very modern and elegant. It is a very comfortable hotel and very nice to visit. The entrance and reception are very functional and above all, it is a "cashless payment" hotel, meaning you don't need cash. As a fact, the amount of money in pounds that I took to Edinburgh was "0". Everything, absolutely everything, can be paid with cards or other means currently available.
At reception you can check-in either by digital methods or at the reception desks, and you always have complimentary water available when you arrive at the hotel. Check in was correct and next to the reception there is the restaurant and the elevators to access the rooms.
The hallways on the floors that give access to the rooms are very bright, cheerful colors and white that offer a great feeling of spaciousness.
The room is very good, when you enter the first thing that welcomes you is a large TV completely built into the wall and all white. Articulated beds that can be raised or lowered as desired, safe, possibility of changing the color of lights, bathroom and shower separate from the toilet with soap and gel accessories. Towels in the necessary quantity and all with the characteristic of white that gives the feeling of hygiene and very good cleanliness. The layout of the room is correct but the problem is that the bunk beds that we had in the room, the highest one coincided with the outlet of the air conditioning and that meant that either it had to be turned off or it turned on automatically at night and could do that the person sleeping upstairs would catch a cold.
Internet connections, USB ports for recharging equipment, synchronization of equipment with the screen... perfect.
The breakfast, the room was very good, if anything many people met for breakfast and there was a bit of a wait until they seated you at a table but there was everything and everything was very good, except the coffee (but that depends on taste). They had fruit, cereals, various kinds of bread, sausages, scrambled eggs, sausages... all very good and 100% recommended, plus the staff, if something was missing, would kindly bring it to you without delay. Very good service.
Finally, the hotel has other services such as a gym, which although we did not use, we saw. Without a doubt this hotel is recommended, its cost may seem somewhat high but the quality is very good, I would repeat without a doubt.

Just stayed (December 2023) in this hotel, and I had a great time!
It was recently renovated and it shows: everything is new and super technological
I stayed alone in a large double room, which however had an excellent size even for 2 people The room had a series of "smart" features that also made the stay more pleasant, such as the possibility of raising the headboard of the bed, or the lights that could be turned on with movement
The bathroom was intelligently divided into 3: a sink in the room and two "boxes", one for the shower and one for the toilet... a clever idea that shortens the time if there are 2 of you!
The shower had a rain jet and also a hand shower (although due to its size it could be called a shower head!), and it worked excellently Excellent cleanliness and brand new and truly high quality towels!
The room was perfectly soundproofed: I didn't hear anything even though the neighboring rooms were both occupied, the only minimal noises came from the door when someone was in the corridor, but even those were really very muffled!
The window reached the floor ensuring good lighting, and as now everywhere it was not possible to open it, but there is air conditioning (which also acts as a heat pump) which solves the problem
The elevators are among the fastest ever seen, with the excellent trick of operating uphill only with the door card
The staff were all very kind and helpful, and I also found a receptionist who spoke Italian perfectly
After all the advantages also the only defects: - there wasn't a chair in the room, because perhaps their idea was to use the bed as a "chair", but I prefer something more traditional, and I remedied this by having it brought - there was no kettle which is normally a must in the UK, and which I use a lot: they showed me a corner on the ground floor where you could make tea and coffee and take the cup into your room... a little uncomfortable but I adapted and solved the problem
I won't review the breakfast and the bar because I haven't tried them, however the room was very large and brand new
The idea of self check-in and check-out is excellent, so when there is a queue at the reception you can shorten the time... perhaps check-out is more useful, given that for example I wanted a room on the upper floors but with the self was impossible to choose, so I spoke to the receptionist
The location is excellent because it is close to the center and if you have no problems walking you don't need public transport, furthermore it is not far from the 100 stop for the airport
Overall, highly recommended for the excellent value for money!

Difficult to find much positive about this hotel. Tiny room, no separate ensuite as such the basin is in the bedroom. Towels are in the toilet on heated towel rails that have been permanently turned off. No tea or coffee provided in rooms, not even a bottle of water. One small stool provided, no chair with a back so have to sit on the bed. No lighting in the bedroom except for tiny side lights over the bed for reading. The room is sterile, all white with no warmth eg colour in cushions, prints ... The whole decor needs a revamp, old stained carpet in passages and marked paintwork, psychedelic pink wallpaper in lift. The foyer provides only two chairs, I had to stand with four cases for 1/2 hour while my husband parked the car in a private car park and walked back to the hotel in the rain. I would class this as a 3*** hotel and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Very disappointed.

We stayed at YOTEL Edinburgh for 3 nights and it was just what we needed. The location was perfect with everything within a 20 min walk. We had a problem with our keycard on the first night and the Mission Control team were quick to help us with it. The room was clean and included a TV, fridge, temperature control, toiletries, an iron and ironing board and they also offer dry cleaning service at a charge. We got breakfast one of the mornings and paid £15pp for a buffet breakfast, although it was adequate, I probably wouldn’t pay for breakfast every morning I was there - which we didn’t. Overall an amazing stay and would highly recommend YOTEL to anyone considering booking. The price is amazing too!

Well this was an experience compared to our usual hotels. Appeared very modern but the room was strangely designed. All one room with the wash basin visible from the bed with a glass toilet cubicle with a towel rail that didn’t heat up and a separate shower cubicle. Very little privacy Breakfast was ok, but the hot food wasn’t replenished very well, and the draughty beers at the bar were generally flat soon after pouring and limited choice due to short supplies. The bed was like a double hospital bed, moving up and down to a reclined seating position. To be fair we slept very well, assisted by blackout blinds. No tea and coffee making facilities in the room but a station just inside the bar area to use during the day and evening. The ideas were there but not up to standard or functional in our opinion.

We came to Edinburgh for a four night stay at the end of January and got a really good room rate from the hotel
The rooms have everything you need
A reclining comfy bed Really good shower with shampoo and body wash etc A fridge to keep your own drinks cold Free safe Tv
The rooms are kept clean and towels changed daily by friendly cleaning staff
The hotel has a well stocked bar and friendly bar staff. Free tea and coffee 24/7 is located in the bar area. No tea or coffee making facilities in the room.
A place to store your bags if your leaving later then your check out time
All round this is a great hotel to stay when visiting Edinburgh, good location to every thing. No to far from the train station
Would we stay here again ? Yes, as long as the rate was a good, competitive one
One complaint from Us, the reception area staff were not very friendly. They were nice on check in, gave a Us a couple of complementary drinks vouchers. Unfortunately that’s were it ended, every time we walked through reception nobody looked at Us, or said good morning etc.
Would like put Us off staying? No. But it would be nice to be acknowledged during your stay

Yotel in Edinburgh, Scotland is located in a very convenient location within easy walking distance to the Royal Mile and the Castle. We arrived mid morning and our room was not ready til 3pm. We were exhausted and needed to rest so we agreed to pay the additional 20 pounds to check in early. However, the hotel's credit card system was not working and we were unable to charge the 20 pounds on our credit cards. We tried six cards and they were all declined. It was the hotel's credit card system that did not work. We discovered that our room had a bad shower leak and water flowed out of the shower to fill the small floor by the sink. Also the small fridge did not cool our drinks and it was encased in a wooden container that over heated so much that we could not set anything on top of the wooden container. We asked to change rooms and this was done. The room had a window, whereas the first room did not. The rooms are clean but far too small with only two hangars and no dressers. We had to use large trash sacks to store our dirty laundry. The shampoo and lotions and conditioners in the shower are very poor quality. The large breakfast in the morning is robust but some items need improving. The eggs were not cooked well and bacon was mostly fat. There is only one coffee maker and always a huge line to get a cup of coffee. The cereal bowls were depleted and I had to ask kitchen staff to bring more. The set up is not attended very well by staff. Taxi cabs are readily available by request at the front desk. Rooms are not cleaned unless you ask the front desk to have them cleaned. You must also request new towels, tissues and toilet paper when you run out. It is not offered. The bar is good for drinks at night but the bar food is limited and sub par. Frozem dtinks ate not available as the ice machine is broken. The price for the rooms is good. You will feel like you are staying in an upgraded hostel rather than a plush hotel.

The hotel's location was very good. A slightly strange solution for the bathroom. The sink inside the room and a very small wc and small shower separately with glass doors into the room. The bed was the best thing about the room. Adjustable so it could be used as a kind of sofa too.
