This hotel is perfectly placed to explore Edinburgh and is located a very short walk from from the tram terminus. The staff were happy to store our luggage as we arrived a while before check in, they also stored it for a few hours once we had checked out four days later. Our room was quite small but was clean...

This is the perfect boutique hotel to stay in Edinburgh. Within ten minutes walk of the Royal Mile it is close enough for all attractions, but just far enough to be a calm, quiet location. The team stop is conveniently located across the street and gives easy access to those further to reach destinations. The room was large and clean....

Only stayed for one night but wish we could have stayed longer, We were in the Tweed room which was small but beautifully clean with everything you could need. The bathroom was modern with a great shower. The best thing about this hotel, apart from it's central location are the helpful and friendly staff. Would stay again without hesitation.

We chose this hotel because of its close proximity to the Edinburgh Playhouse. It was a great find. On arrival I was a bit apprehensive but I need not have worried. The staff were lovely and the room was spacious, very clean and warm. The bathroom was lovely especially the rainfall shower head. There were a lovely selection of soaps...

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
