Stayed at the queens guest house for a long weekend. It is well situated in Edinburgh and decorated to a high standard. The girl on reception when we arrived was very helpful. However, there are a few things that let it down. Whilst wooden floors in the corridors may look nice, they are not practical in a hotel/guest house when...

We stayed at the Queens Guest House for 2 nights in mid Nov. The location is ideal for walking to all the sights. We had a room to the back and it was spotlessly clean, very comfortable, quiet and with nice amenities. The breakfast was hot and cheerfully served---the staff was very accommodating and helpful. We would definitely stay here...

Stayed one night on a brief stopover. Our room was tiny and dark but the bed was comfy and the room spotless. The Queens Guest House is in a great location but we would not have wanted to stay longer in that particular room. Staff were great, very helpful and cheerful. Enjoyed the breakfast.

We received a very warm welcome when we checked in, even though we had turned up slightly before the start of the 'official' check in time and were shown to our room on the ground floor. The room was spacious and spotlessly clean, while the bathroom was nice and big. We were lucky that our room was located at the...

We were in Edinburgh for our 25th Anniversary. We chose it because we got married in Queens Street registry office, but also because of the location. Very central. On arrival the reception was so friendly, they could not have done more to help. They even got some champaign glasses for us to celebrate. The room was very comfortable. The breakfast...

Our stay was brief, only 1 night however I would have happily stayed a week. Brilliant location, we walked from the train station and had no problem finding the guest house in a lovely area of Edinburgh. The rooms are very clean & modern, with the added bonus of free in room wifi. I was concerned of noise from the...

I stayed here with my 11-year old daughter and her friend. The staff are absolute gems. They tackle every issue with humor and efficiency. There are many options for breakfast, and the cooked food is served steaming hot. Dietary requirements are met without hassle. Everything is clean and the beds are very good.

We visited Edinburgh in July and wanted to stay in the city but not at a large chain hotel. The Queens Guest House had the high end feel of a large hotel but the character of a small inn. The family room in the lower level was very comfortable and spacious for 2 adults and 2 teens. The location was...

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
