This was a birthday weekend, every birthday we go for a weekend away instead of the usual presents. We have been to many of the best places in Edinburgh and have tried for some time to book 21212, this weekend we were successful. We asked for a room with a garden view which we got and what a beautiful room....

We stayed at 21212 to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary, and we're so glad we chose it. The staff were polite, attentive and helpful, and the room was beautiful; I loved the way period features had been bought up to date and included without being destroyed or hidden. The bed was very comfortable, and absolutely enormous - we were going...

Decided to fight the winter blues by booking dinner and one night stay. It was the best decision. We arrived around half four and got checked in pretty quickly. The lady was super nice and showed us around. Our room on the second floor was absolutely amazing. There is raised platform for the bed and lazy couch set in front...

This is by far the best meal my wife and I have ever eaten. We came for my wife's 30th and we're truly blown away by the stunning standard of food and service! It's expensive but worth every penny for a once in a lifetime dinning experience. The venue is beautiful, the service incredibly smooth and not in any way...

We stayed here one night in September at the beginning of a five day tour of Scotland from London. I like to plan my travels to minimize excess effort while maximizing the experience of a new location. So 21212 fit my objectives. It is a short walk...even with luggage ...from the Wavereley train station. It has a well reviewed restaurant...

My wife and I stayed at this wonderful small boutique hotel on the 07/10/16 for one night for our 10 wedding anniversary From the minute we checked in to the minute we checked out FIRST CLASS SERVICE FROM EVERYONE. We stayed in room one not really a room more like a suite with a bathroom of the very highest standard....

Great food, innovative and scrumptious supported by friendly informative and helpful staff. A good wine list supports the excellent menu with good wine advice on wine pairing. Nice comfortable surroundings and a relaxed atmosphere.

We stayed at 21212 for three nights in July 2016, 2 at the beginning of our road trip and one final night before travelling back home. This is a place I would absolutely love to love. The location, the building, the staff, the size of the rooms, the general decor, the linens, the cleanliness, is all I am looking for...

I'm sorry to read your review and I can say in 7 years of being here, hand on heart you are the 1st people to ever say this about food smells so not sure if you are especially sensitive or others are especially polite! So, I would say to others looking to stay, to balance out that equation. Breakfast as...

Food was excellent though bit overpriced waitress explained every dish in detail and was very attentive Decor is beautiful but the wine was ridiculously expensive There are private dining areas which looked amazing for special occasions But I'm afraid at £100 average bill per head including wine it would have to be a SPECIAL occasion

Running a restaurant is a very expensive and in particular labour intensive business which is why we have to charge for it. I'm glad you enjoyed it all though and I would hope it always worthy of a special occasion as it's not an everyday experience.

I love the idea behind 21212, that you get to choose from three starters, three mains, and three desserts (originally it was two of each, hence the restaurant's name), with a soup course and cheese course in between. It means you don't get as much choice as you normally do, but that each dish should represent the kitchen's very best...

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
