Great staff, great bar, great food, great location. Small hotel with 47 rooms, each well appointed and very comfortable. This is our go-to hotel to visit our daughter at University of Edinburgh due to its location.

We spent 3 nights here while up for the European rugby. The location of the hotel is great, and most places are within easy walking distance. The building is a typical Hotel du Vin building, old and interesting. Our room overlooked the courtyard and was clean and quiet. The bathroom was a good size and had a bath with incredible...

We chose the hotel because of its character but found a lot more. We stayed twice in three days (as we were on an overnight tour) and both times our bags had already been taken to our room before check in. One of the reception staff actually escorted us to our room & showed us all the amenities. The room...

It cannot be called food. The worst nye dinner I ever had. They tried to make presentations of plates but they just messed everything up, descriptions of food was not very clear at all. Let's now talk about the price. Someone from reservations should call guests advising they are pre- authorising a card, but this has not been done. They...

We stayed at the Hotel du Vin for five nights recently and for the most part felt that hotel excellent. Our room which was spacious, very comfortable and with one of the best showers we have been in for years was a major positive. The housekeeping first class and the overall levels of care and friendliness from the staff again...

Dear DerrickJS Many thanks for taking the time to feedback on TA, it is always good to read that you enjoyed your time with us. Unfortunately, we didn't quite live up to standards when it came to your breakfast however, thank you for accepting our apology in regards to this. I do hope that we'll see you again very soon....

We stayed here for 3 nights while visiting our son. We chose the location based on it's close proximity to University of Edinburgh. It is walk-able to many Edinburgh sites (Palace of Holy-rood, Arthur's Seat, Edinburgh Castle, etc. Great restaurants nearby. We had breakfast only one morning as that is all we had time for and it was excellent. (Poached...

Title says all. I do not recommend, much better places in Edinbrugh to go to if you want decent food. Reasonable decor but simply outraged at the audacity considering the food standards compared to the price.

Recently had a lovely stay here, for the second time. The room was kept very clean and was nice and quiet. All the staff we met were extremely helpful and friendly so would heartily recommend this lovely hotel and splendid room.

Love this little hotel for the staff and the location for sightseeing. Located in Old Town, it's next to the Univ of Edinburgh and very close to the National Museum of Scotland (highly recommended) and the Royal Mile. The location is more quiet than the hotels on the Royal Mile (which can get noisy on the weekends). We stayed in...

Overnight stay and breakfast: The room . . . Spacious and well appointed with a fabulously comfy bed, superb duvet and nice big well positioned tv, AND a socket next to the bed allowing my phone/alarm clock to be next to the bed. The hairdryer was great and the mirror was next to the socket making for a pleasant hairdrying...

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
