We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel du Vin. It is perfectly located to explore the entire city center of Edinburgh. The hotel staff without exception was exceedingly pleasant, professional, and helpful----they are the greatest strength of this hotel. The room was very nice with a very spacious rainfall shower. A bit pricey but I think worth it.

Fab hotel, lovely superior room (grange) with roll top bath in the room, quiet, luxurious and comfy. Nice staff and whisky snug looked cute although there was a function on so very busy. Breakfast and bar very expensive. I ordered a mojito which was expensive but not very nice.

We've stayed here on breakfast and dinner deal for couple of nights. And it's NOT cheap. It's a lovely place, great location, however I would not stay here again. Our room was Springfield. As previously mentioned by other reviews the lighting is very poor and it's even worse when some lights in your room don't work... The bed was comfy. The...

Stayed her with my friends for a ladies weekend. Staff were helpful and friendly on checking sorting out rooms snows could all be near each other and brought buckets of ice up to each room straight away. Our rooms were spacious with courtyard views, the bathrooms large and the shower powerful with plenty of towels and toiletries. We has a...

I stayed in Edinburgh with a friend, who had booked a double room thinking it would be two double beds. As it was going to be one (small double bed) they very kindly managed to give us a larger room, with two twin beds pushed together. This was one of the nicer rooms, with the bathtub in the room, which...

The usual high standard of room, food and service. We got a bargain deal for 2 nights DB&B at £239 and it was fabulous. Great location too - for the right balance of quality and value, its a no brainer!

Friday special! Great deal, could it live up to the price. Yes it did ! Nice welcome , good info from reception. Guided ( not easiest hotel layout ) to our room by a manager. Nice well serviced room that had all the amenities you need. Good service in bar for pre dinner drinks. Good wine list as you would...

I live in Edinburgh, but took advantage of a last minute offer to Hotel Du Vin in the city centre: £99 for a room, breakfast and a 3 course dinner from the Prix Fixe menu. The building is lovely - lots of exposed brickwork, nooks and crannies, and the Bistro is in a great setting. On checking in, I was...

Location is great as only about 20 minutes (slow) walk from Waverley bridge where the airport bus 100 stops and you can catch the city tour buses. There were steep steps to walk up on the route to hotel (bit hard with a suit case) if following google maps but you can walk up the road for a gentler slope....

I like Hotel du Vin, I have stayed in quite a few throughout the UK . This one I was going to give a better rating. Staff where very pleasant, dinner was good and the surrounding very convivial as you would expect from HdV. Rooms where small which I think let's it down. My rating however takes into account my...

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
