We stayed at Capital View Apartments for two weeks in September. Let me start by stating all the reasons we loved it. The views from the apartment are gorgeous, looking out towards Princess St., the National Gallery and Waverly Station are spectacular. The studio is very large and bright with high ceilings. I would rather stay in one very large...

My wife and I stayed at the apartment for a week during the Edinburgh Festival in August. It provided a good base from which to walk to shows, restaurants and pubs, and great views across Edinburgh. The apartment was clean and tidy and provided what we needed for our stay. One thing to be aware of is that it can...

We just spent a wonderful 3 nights at Capital View Apartments. The apartment was made up for 3 of us but can sleep 4. Rooms are spacious and very clean. You can't beat the location of the apartment. Right off the Royal Mile and convenient to shops restaurants and attractions. The view of course was terrific. Jill was very helpful...

We stayed 3 days in this apartment on the third floor of a building of 1700 near the center of Edinburgh. The view enjoyed from the apartment is absolutely incomparable. Apartment comfortable even if a little bit small for 4 people. The kitchenette has also a wonderful bakery, hard to find in this kind of flat studio. The owner, Jill,...

The best stay we've had in Edinburgh to date. Clean comfortable and secure and right in the heart of the town! We loved this place and will be booking again soon! Only minor negative points were the windows seemed to let in noise even though we were on the 8th floor but nothing serious in any way and never stopped...

I stayed here in March 2011 with my boyfriend. Firstly the location is amazing, you can walk everywhere in Edinburgh from the apartments, and the view from the window is nice. And the price was only £85 a night, which for Edinburgh is cheap, so that is positive. But the apartments are not that nice, clean, but out of date,...

We arrived early and kindly the landlady let us check in the apartment already at 11 o'clock. The cleaner was still in doing the cleaning, but she let us in to leave the luggage. That was very friendly. The apartment was nice, not luxury but good standard. Especially the bathroom was very comfortable and beautifully decorated. There was some biscuits...

We were a family of four staying in the apartment for several days. The location can't be beat - around the corner from the castle and Royal Mile, which made it easy to go out for a while and come back for a cup of tea or rest in the middle of the day. The space is compact but well...

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
