We stayed in Flat 4. It is clean and convenient to busses, trains, and attractions/grocery market/restaurants within a mile walk. The tub in the main bathroom had no stopper and only warm water (not hot). The small bathroom is very tiny with a shower only, but it does have plenty of hot water. Parking was possible on the street very...

We have visited Edinburgh many times but yet to see this historic building. I cannot thank the staff enough for their kindness in helping me make the most of my visit as I am using a wheelchair following an operation. Throughout our time enjoying the butterfly gallery and especially the house staff approached us to offer private lifts and open...

This visit has two attractions The first involves The Queen 's painting Gallery. The current attraction was a surprise! Maria Merian is an excellent flora and fauna artist. Secondly the royal apartments are well displayed. Take time to attend the free talks by the wardens in the Palace and art exhibition. We enjoyed the whiskey fruit cake and the crown...

Holyrood Palace is an amazing structure. The rooms are well decorated and are very historical. As beautiful as this palace is, you are prohibited from taking pictures. Young and energetic children may become bored and disruptive. The bedrooms in the palace are very delicate. The paintings are beautiful and the palace is very symmetrical. If you have any health problems,...

Very good experience of our visit to the Palace and fashion to mark the Queen,'s 90th birthday. Audio tour was good, all staff in the Palace were friendly and knowledgeable. However on visiting the cafe outside the Palace the staff were unfriendly and rude. A rucksack had been left unattended in the outside seating area and when cafe staff were...

Fantastic working royal palace full of Royal splender, treasures and history. Everyroom more spectacular than the rest. Frequented by her Majesty the Queen every year. Ooh and dont miss the fabulous exhibition of her dresses.

We took the self guided audio tour of the palace and grounds. I had friends from Austria with me. it was their first visit and they were very interested to see and hear the history of this beautiful royal home. We enjoyed the exhibit of Queen's fashion through the years. Beautiful gardens. Cost is £11.00 for adults so not massively...

5 of us arranged a day trip specifically focused on the clothing exhibition. It's obvious the best was in London so why didn't they wait and move it all up here. 3 rooms of outfits. Nice enough but not enough. Modern outfits poorly displayed on poor sized mannequins and the queen never wore hats tilted back. The outfit worn for...

If you are visiting Holyrood Palace, The Fashioning a Reign exhibit is a chance to see some of the beautiful couture, tartans and outfits worn by the Queen over the years. It is a short exhibit, but well worth it to appreciate the exquisite workmanship on display. Each outfit displayed has a picture and details of where it was worn,...

We took the self guided audio tour of the palace and grounds. As a first visit, it was interesting to see the history of this royal home. Enjoyed the exhibit of Queen's fashion through the years. Beautiful gardens. Was able to take some beautiful photos of lovely sky's in the Abby.

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighbourhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighbourhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
