The rooms are clean, tidy and spacious. The staff are really helpful and friendly. The location was really good, because it is very close to the centre. It is one of the best hostels, I have ever stayed in.

The manager was extremely nice, the facilities were so clean and modern and spacious, it was the most comfortable hostel bed I've ever had. Wifi was great and plenty of plugs in the room. Not recommended for those in wheelchairs though, as there is no elevator.

We stayed here for two nights and loved it. Jamie was very helpful with advice about where to eat, what to see, and what bus to take. The dorm room was clean, comfortable, and it was a friendly environment to meet fellow travelers. A 10 minute walk to rose street and the castle.

Stayed here for two nights. Location is pretty good as it only takes about 10 minutes to get to the city centre by foot. The bar and breakfast are nice if you just want to come back to the hostel for a bit while you let your phone charge. Staff was also helpful with other minor things. However, the bathroom...

I along with my 4 other friends stayed in Westend hotel in May end 2015. The place was great, its neat, beds are good and the bathrooms are neat. Maddy, from reception, is very helpful. The breakfast is also good. I loved this place, and I had a peaceful sleep, after my busy day out. I would recommend this place...

Juz 13 pounds a night in a mixed 15-ppl dorm. Excellent cleanliness as a hotel. Lacking free breakfast however you can always get cheap breakfast in Edinburgh. Edinburgh is a compact city that attractions are at walking distance from the hotel.

Clean, modern refurbished property and friendly staff! Perfectly located in the West End of Edinburgh, only a short walk from the heart of the city with plenty of frequent public transport to hand. Highly recommended for young people.

We just stayed here for our hen party with a big group of men and women. We booked the entire 18 bed dorm for 16 of us (split the cost so it worked out cheaper) and it was fantastic. The good points: The staff were really friendly and helpful. The chef catered to our specific time needs for dinner and...

I stayed in the 8 bed hostel room for 3 nights and would definitely go back! Great location, friendly staff, clean bathrooms and toilets and nice rooms. I wouldn't recommend getting the continental breakfast as it was very basic, cornflakes, rice bubbles and white toast. Also the kitchen closes quite early 8.30pm on week days. Great value for money here...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
