Neighbourhood
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.

It doesn't even feel like a hostel since the accomodation, facilities and amenities are quite nice. It's about a 20 minute walk to Edinburg's downtown. The staff was kind, they kept our luggages after the check-out. The room I stayed in was for 6 people...More

Here's why I am confused: the staff here are authorized to handle most aspects of guest's stay. If there is a problem, the staff are equipped to resolve such in a courteous manner that benefits both the guest, and the West End Hostel. Since this...More

I'm going to start by saying I noticed under what is included it says breakfast. Either breakfast isn't included and it is lying, or when we checked in they failed to mention that. I guess I'll never know. But if you do stay here, I...More

It turned out to be a good choice for only one night. It's close to city centre to go on foot. We stayed in a room with six beds and a private bathroom. The bathroom was renovated and clean. If you want towels, you have...More
