Picked Ramsay's based on reviews and location, and it was a winner in every sense. Convenient location to central Edinburgh, spotlessly clean, comfortable bed, and super-friendly helpful owners. They served up one of the best breakfasts I have ever had. Plus little touches like comfy bathrobes, toffee and a welcome dram of whisky. Wish I could have stayed longer; hope...

The reviews are all true! Comfortable, clean, friendly and great location. One night stay to see show at Edinburgh Playhouse which was easy walking distance. Loads of lovely places to eat nearby and hosts who made you feel so welcome. Looking forward to a return visit.

Sharon and Norrie are wonderful hosts! The breakfast is excellent. Many choices! The room is clean and well appointed. Norrie told us of a nearby laundry that you could leave your clothes and pick them up later. The location of Ramsay's was just perfect. Easy walk to Royal Mile. Excellent restaurants nearby. We liked the Ox and Olive Branch. Excellent...

We recently stayed at Ramsay's B & B during a 12 day trip throughout Scotland. This was the best B & B we stayed at during our trip. It was a lovely surprise to be welcomed with a wee dram of whiskey! The location is great - it's about a 15 minute walk to the Royal Mile and there are...

We stayed at Ramsay's B&B for four nights recently. We loved the location as it is a short, 10 minute (uphill!) walk to Waverley Station yet on a quiet, less touristy street. We found several good restaurants and a friendly pub on Broughton Street just a few minutes walk from the front door. As others have said, Sharon and Norris...

We slept in the petite bedroom and it was not that petite as we had expected. The room was great, just like the bathroom (which is situated outside the petite room, but this was not a problem for us). Everything was very clean and tidy. Thank you for everything Sharon and Norris, we will definitely come back soon! (We saw...

A warm, friendly and smiling welcome, comfortable, clean, tidy and tasteful accommodation, large room with 2 single beds with a nice green view on the back garden, very peaceful with only the songbirds for an alarm clock. Good breakfast more than ample with fresh fruits and the spot of whisky in the porridge was unexpected but much appreciated for someone...

The best B&B I have ever stayed in! Within walking distance of the city centre, local attractions and public transport and as many bars, restaurants and shops as you could wish for. The hosts were some of the most welcoming and helpful people I have ever met. My room was spotless and superbly equipped and breakfast was plentiful and extremely...

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
