Couldn't rate this B and B any more. It's a fantastic place to stay. Close to the city centre and the most friendliest people, there to answer any questions and help you with any queries you may have. The breakfast will superb. Will definitely be back to stay on our next trip to Edinburgh. Even got a cuddle from teddy,...

Amazing hosts and an amazing property! A proper whisky introduction on arrival and then downstairs to our beautiful room (#3). I believe we only saw Sharon once during our stay, but Norrie was full of little tidbits of advice and suggestions. He definitely wanted us to experience everything Edinburgh had to offer while we were there. The B&B was the...

Stayed in this lovely little B&B for one night only, and this was not nearly long enough. We had an early morning flight to Edinburgh, so opted for a taxi from the airport. The price estimate from the website was spot on. Once we got to the B&B we were greeted by the lovely Mr Ramsay who insisted on carrying...

My son and I stayed and the Ramsay's when visiting Edinburgh. The location was perfect, within a short walking distance from the city center and the main attractions, bars and restaurants. Ramsay was a great host. He greeted with a whisky upon our arrival and provided all the information we needed. Room was very convenient, quite and clean and breakfast...

The Ramsays run a fine little inn in a part of Edinburgh that is so convenient to anything one might want to see. It's two blocks from the end of the airport tram, down Broughton St., lined with shops and eateries less touristy than those on the Royal Mile. The #8 bus runs up and down Broughton every few minutes,...

Picked Ramsay's based on reviews and location, and it was a winner in every sense. Convenient location to central Edinburgh, spotlessly clean, comfortable bed, and super-friendly helpful owners. They served up one of the best breakfasts I have ever had. Plus little touches like comfy bathrobes, toffee and a welcome dram of whisky. Wish I could have stayed longer; hope...

The reviews are all true! Comfortable, clean, friendly and great location. One night stay to see show at Edinburgh Playhouse which was easy walking distance. Loads of lovely places to eat nearby and hosts who made you feel so welcome. Looking forward to a return visit.

Sharon and Norrie are wonderful hosts! The breakfast is excellent. Many choices! The room is clean and well appointed. Norrie told us of a nearby laundry that you could leave your clothes and pick them up later. The location of Ramsay's was just perfect. Easy walk to Royal Mile. Excellent restaurants nearby. We liked the Ox and Olive Branch. Excellent...

We recently stayed at Ramsay's B & B during a 12 day trip throughout Scotland. This was the best B & B we stayed at during our trip. It was a lovely surprise to be welcomed with a wee dram of whiskey! The location is great - it's about a 15 minute walk to the Royal Mile and there are...

We stayed at Ramsay's B&B for four nights recently. We loved the location as it is a short, 10 minute (uphill!) walk to Waverley Station yet on a quiet, less touristy street. We found several good restaurants and a friendly pub on Broughton Street just a few minutes walk from the front door. As others have said, Sharon and Norris...

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
