Recently stayed at this hotel with a party of friends and relations. The hotel was easy enough to find beside the bus station to the rear of the shopping centres. The hotel rooms did what they had too as regards a bed and shower. The rooms were cleaned each day and our room had a view down onto the main road. The negative aspects... Fantastic location, very close to Edinburgh bus station. Allowed to leave luggage to pick up later at no extra cost. The staff went over and above the call of duty to make this a fantastic trip. Would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend.

We stayed at this hotel from 19 October 2013 to October 22, 2013. I traveled with my 82 years old dad. When we arrived the front desk staff Paul has told us that we could have our request for 2 single beds . We stayed on the 1st floor which was an excellent location for my dad as he could... More

What a fantastic hotel, we were welcomed on arrival. Our room was lovely, on the first floor with great carved wooden furniture. The hotel is really convenient for everything especially the Stand Comedy Club. Will definitely recommend to others and stay there again. I don't know why there are bad reviews of this place it's a real gem!

As soon as we walked through the front door we were made to feel like top priority. The.service of all the staff was nothing short of perfection and.couldn't fault it in the slightest. Even though check-in wasn't until after 2 they were more than happy to store our bags leaving us bag free to explore the city :) Breakfast both... More

Edinburgh is a very beautiful city. It took us a long time to locate the hotel as most hotels look like a house from outside and all buildings are alike. The person on the reception desk was very rude. The rooms are very big and well furnished. We took the family room - much bigger then most places. Only problem... More

The hotel is in a great location - an easy walk from Waverley Rail Station and next door to the bus station. We stayed for just one night en route to the far north of Scotland. The staff were excellent - very friendly and helpful.Free Wi-Fi, beds comfortable and bathroom clean. I agree with other reviewers that it could do... More

Very very basic and noisy because of the 24-7 road works outside..... This hotel could seriously be improved with remodelling great people though just sadly very outdated and shabby accommodation. It's in a great city position just out of the centre but very accessible.

Stayed at this hotel with my boyfriend this weekend. We paid £75 per night and stayed for two nights. We were in a room on the third floor and there is no lift however that didn't really bother us as we only had small bags with us. What horrified us was my boyfriend is now covered in bites from bed... More

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
