We booked this at the last minute (it is at the top end of local prices) and were not really sure what to expect but were absolutely thrilled when we arrived. The check in staff were incredibly friendly, the room lovely, quirky and with fantastic duvets! The bathroom was fine (although does suffer from low water pressure) and breakfast not...

Dear Timgin, Thank you so, so much for your lovely review. Delighted we surpassed your expectations. The Hotel is definitely not one of these 'uniform' ones regards layout and rooms - it's a fantastic, very old building with some rooms quirkier than others and the exterior belies the size and layout inside. Unfortunately this also applies, at times. to the...

Dear kenhelen2, Thank you for your great review. We're delighted you had an enjoyable break and found the hotel welcoming and comfortable - and Kirkcudbright interesting. It is certainly steeped in history and is called The Artists Town due it"s famous links with E.A.Taylor, E A Hornel, Jessie M King and Charles Oppenheimer who all lived and worked here. We...

We stayed two days at the Selkirk Arms after taking up a special offer and were not disappointed. The staff are amazing, everyone friendly and you had the impression that nothing was too much trouble. The room was clean and well stocked with coffee, tea and biscuits as well as toiletries. Food was varied and cooked beautifully, using fresh local...

We stayed using a Travelzoo deal and it was fantastic. The hotel is centrally located. It is kept in excellent order. The staff are friendly and helpful. The food is really really good from the substantial breakfast to the beautifully cooked and presented evening meals. Highly recommended.

What a pleasant surprise The Selkirk Arms was. The attractive exterior of the hotel was being freshly painted when we arrived and looked very smart and well cared for. The frontage belied the interior which was extensive with 16 bedrooms, dining room, lounge and bar. We were made extremely welcome by the reception staff and this was carried through by...

We'd stayed here before so knew the food would be good, but adding in the opportunity to do some dark skies stargazing with an expert as well was unmissable. Steve Owens (@darkskyman) was our celestial guide and he arranged the evening sessions to take account of the rather wet weather on the first night, swapping the skywatch outing with the...

Had a small but very comfortable room with well appointed bathroom. Shower was not the fiercest, but gentle and fine for us. Food was very good and service was excellent especially at dinner. Receptionists were also excellent. We enjoyed the small touches of fruit on the stair for guests to help themselves. Pretty garden and setting in the delightful town...

Enjoyed a great overnight stay. Greeted by a warm friendly and professional welcome. Rooms were spacious, well appointed, comfortable and reasonably priced. We relished a fantastic dinner my favourite was the venison. Great breakfast of porridge and kippers washed down with plentiful freshly brewed coffee. Throughout our stay staff excelled in helpfulness and friendliness. Highly recommended. A rare combination of...
