The Marcliffe hotel garners appreciation for its comfortable and spacious rooms, though a touch of modernization is desired by some guests. Many find the drawing room, with its ambient piano music, particularly enchanting. The hotel's dining options and overall luxury are well-received, although there are calls for improved coffee choices and spa access. Service is generally commended for being professional and friendly, but occasional sluggishness has been noted. Cleanliness is a standout feature, contributing to the hotel's welcoming yet opulent atmosphere, although opinions on vibrancy vary. Value perceptions are split, with some guests questioning the price-to-experience ratio.

Booked in for dinner bed and breakfast
Quick check in at the beautiful reception with welcoming front desk staff.
Room key is a physical key so could prove tricky after a few drinks.
Standard room lovely and spacious with a small seating area and some fruit and water as a nice touch. Lovely big comfy bed. Good quality bathroom products. Under sink lights come on automatically when you walk close so nice at night without turning on main light. Slippers and robes. No air con but fan in the wardrobe. No usb outlets.
Dinner starts with drinks and nibbles in the bar with live piano player and they take your food order here, when the kitchen is ready you get taken through to your table. Lovely clean linens and glassware. Warm bread and butter. Starters of scallops and pea arancini, both lovely. Main course pork loin and the star of the show the ribeye steak with amazing chips. All accompaniments included unlike some places where you pay extra for sauce etc. white chocolate kiwi dessert lovely. The chocolate ice cream unfortunately was not lovely and smooth like I would want.
Breakfast includes a help yourself continental buffet of pastries, yogurts, fruit, deli meats and cheeses. Also a variety of juices. You can also ask for porridge which unfortunately is made with water so very bland. Would be nice to have the option of having it made with milk/cream dependent on taste.
Also would be nice if there is an option of coffees like latte or cappuccino and not just filtered black coffee.
Hot breakfast options also available, we had eggs Benedict which was lovely. The Scottish breakfast had soft scrambled egg and tasty sausages but the crispy bacon was so tough I feared for my teeth and the tattie scone was very dry. The croissant was also a bit soft and not crisp and fresh.
The standout at the Marcliffe is the welcoming and professional service by all staff. Beautiful decor with a homey but luxury feel.

My husband and I dined in the Conservatory last night for the first time. From the minute we entered the hotel, we were very impressed. We were welcomed by the friendly reception staff and spent a very relaxing 30 minutes in the drawing room listening to the piano music with a drink and enjoying the ambience. We then went to the Conservatory and had the most amazing meal. Our steaks were cooked to perfection and the desserts were out of this world. The service in the dining room was exceptional. The staff were very professional and attentive. We had coffee back in the drawing room whilst enjoying the lovely surroundings and atmosphere. It was a most memorable evening and we will definitely return.

My wife and I travelled to Aberdeen because we wanted to experience the area of Aberdeenshire with all the castles and the seabird nature reserve. We booked the Marcliffe without much knowledge of Aberdeen and we got lucky. The hotel was spaceous and clean. There was a large area where they served breakfast, which was very good (buffet + kitchen orders). The service from the staff was excellent, they even heated up some left over Chinese take away for us one night. Our room was very large with our own deck area, it was beside the car park, which was handy but not so picturesque. The hotel was nesstled in a beautiful area of Aberdeen and we realized later how lucky that was for us. Downtown Aberdeen is not a desireable location to stay, matter of fact I would avoid the city all together. The city is very bland, industrial looking and felt a little sketchy. Since the hotel was outside of the city centre it was easy for us to drive out of the city to the differnt sites in Aberdeenshire. I really enjoyed our stay here.

I have been in the travel trade for 14yrs & by far this hotel has disappointed me the most.
I booked this hotel as a spa break for myself & husband only to be told when prompted at check in that the Spa was full for the duration of my 2 night stay so we couldn’t use any of the facilities
I voiced my annoyance there & then & was told management would make contact with me, was told again on check out management would call me yesterday (Monday) but still not heard anything.
To prompt you to book your evening meal incase it becomes full before your stay but not contact you to book spa treatments incase that fills up just doesn’t make sense.
Staff attempted to say that the spa / hotel are separate but when your marketed as a Spa hotel the hotel should be responsible for the spa & availability.
Outwith this …. The hotel is clearly popular for Afternoon Tea,s as we waited nearly 20mins to be served for drinks as staff to busy catering to the Afternoon Tea guests.
In my opinion and due to my travel career you could get a better experience in a 4* hotel in Aberdeen, the average age of guests is 70yrs & that’s the atmosphere of the hotel it is very stale & mediocre.
The only positive was the main meal was lovely & so was Sundays breakfast, Saturdays breakfast wasn’t good, the bacon was described as “crispy” but it was chewy rubber both is us couldn’t eat it so we had to eat out to get another breakfast.
I have stayed in the Ardoe hotel & Spa in Aberdeen before & in my opinion it was far superior in all areas of the stay.

Family evening meal at the Marcliffe. Arrived 7pm to find bar full of people who had attended high tea and we now drinking into the evening, so we were seated in the cold lobby. The waitress arrived without a drinks menu - "because I can't find one" Eventually one was found and the drinks came with a promise to find us a table in the bar - which never happened as other guests were escorted straight in. Our meal time came and passed so we had to go in search of a member of staff to take us through to a pretty cold dining room - they had clearly forgotten about us. Starter took a long time to arrive and the food, when it arrive was of a poor quality and simply not worth the expensive prices being charged. At the end of the meal we just left because the bar was still full of the high tea customers.
The Marcliffe used to be a great dining experience and worth the expense, but not any more. The staff tried hard but seemed to be let down by a lack of training, resources and leadership. Sadly, we won't be back,

Booked for a Saturday evening meal, arrived and sat in the lounge and had beautiful alcohol free cocktails. Was ruined a bit by the couple next to us complaining they couldn't be fitted in for a meal at 7pm which was strange as when we went through to the restaurant it was almost empty with no atmosphere whatsoever. We got a vibe that it was a bit chaotic and customers weren't happy. Food prices are up, steaks were smaller and less tasty than previous visits and the restaurant staff were very young and did not engage at all. Seems to have lost it's "special" place for us so doubt we will be back.

Very nice hotel, staff, location, room, and facilities. Junior Suite room (#306) was very comfortable and spacious. There was the occasional bit of outside noise that could be heard during early morning deliveries or staff outside chatting near our windows. Food was very good, with the hot cooked breakfasts a particular standout (tasty and served quickly). Minus half a star for a couple of issues (one steak was severely overcooked; one room service order arrived a bit on the cold side). Whisky selection was excellent (if a bit overpriced). A few quirky internet and TV reception issues at first, but those ultimately got resolved. Staff was consistently friendly and helpful, with any and all requests dealt with promptly and efficiently. (Nicola, Emma, and Tony, in particular, were wonderful, as were several others whose names we unfortunately didn’t catch.) Location is great; just a bit outside of town so quiet and restful, but just a short drive into town (decent bus connections also, within walking distance). Overall, a very nice and comfortable hotel in a great location, with excellent staff and service. Would stay here again and highly recommend to others.

Booked an overnight for ourselves, son, daughter and their partners in early May. As always, we just love the experience of The Marcliffe: from enjoying drinks in the cosy drawing room to the fabulous dinner and service in the restaurant. Special shout out to Asia in the drawing room bar and Shannen in the restaurant who guided our gluten & dairy free guests through the menu with ease and confidence. Food & service 10/10. We all looked forward to the breakfast, which we’ve raved about after previous visits, but on this occasion the quality wasn’t up to the usual standard resulting in 5 out of 6 disappointed. After speaking to management we understand the issue and look forward to our next breakfast when we stay in summer.

Sadly not The Marcliffe of yesteryear!
Visited for the famous Marcliffe Afternoon Tea earlier this week with friends who had never been. Unfortunately, the offering for the price per head, was not a patch on the previous owners standards.
The sandwich fillings were anything but up to scratch and the bread was stale and dry.
The cakes looked beautiful but were absolutely tasteless!
We were sat facing the bar and a waitress was standing speaking, behind the bar to a colleague, whilst yawning every few seconds. Not exactly a reflection of a 5 ⭐️establishment?
I agree with the reviewer below, the hotel looks like it needs a re injection of Mr Spence! Shame, as George serving us in the drawing room was the only member of staff who seemed to have any idea of how the Marcliffe used to be.
There are now much better offerings out there being much better value for money with 5 ⭐️ service thrown in. We definitely will not be back.

Just a lovely, lovely stay. Staff very warm and welcoming (special shout out to Cass and Tony!). Room was very comfortable and oh so quiet. Lots of shelf and drawer space. We had dinner here the first night. It was an evening long affair and we felt very pampered: drinks and nibbles in the drawing room, dinner in the dining room, and then a nice finish with coffee/tea back in the drawing room. Food was wonderfully prepared. Pace of meal was perfect.
