Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stayed here overnight, room was fairly small but had everything you need and a really comfy bed. Had dinner in the hotel and it was amazing, would really recommend! If you have trouble with stairs you may struggle as there are many and seem to go on for ever. Staff were helpful but there seemed to be a distinct lack of them. You could be getting served at the bar and someone would ring a bell in reception and the staff member had to run and book them in. Location is fab as it's just behind Union Street so great for shops and bars. Definitely stay here again as great value for money

I’ve recently visited this hotel & after reading some other reviews I feel like it’s necessary to review it. I haven’t reviewed a hotel previously. I booked this hotel because it was cheap, £40 for a room inc breakfast sounded perfect for me as I was only in Aberdeen for one night. So I read through the reviews on the hotel as I was on the train on the way up to Aberdeen, and to be honest got kind of worried. There are reviews saying the reception isn’t helpful, that the breakfast is terrible, that the place is noisey, dirty & basically horrendous. Total nonsense. I arrived at 10pm, it took around 2 minutes for the receptionist to show after pressing the bell. I was in my room no longer than 5 minutes after entering the hotel. I stayed at the front of the hotel, room 105. The road noise is perfectly normal. I had a drink in the bar which is quite nice, the room was clean, everything worked, there’s an iron, working TV & it was a comfortable temperature. I went down for breakfast at around 9am, it’s a buffet and it’s regularly re-filled. There’s 1 Russian woman doing the table service & running the show, she brings fresh toast & coffees. She’s brilliantly helpful & very friendly. The breakfast is nice, there is a decent selection to chose from. Everybody's experiences are different I understand that but for £40 for a clean warm room & a nice breakfast I cannot see how anybody has complained at this hotel. It’s not a place to go on your anniversary, granted. But why on earth would you at £40 a night. Well worth the money. I will use this place again.

The hotel was very clean but the room was very stuffy and a bit smelly. We were leaving our windows open but the cleaners kept closing them so it remained stuffy! The breakfast was really good, all very tasty, lots of choice, and freshly cooked. Parking was difficult as the car park is so small and on one day we had to pay to park on the street.

This Hotel has a horribel service standard at the reception. The staff at the breakfast is great tho. Smal and smelly familyroom. NON-friendly reception staff, doesn’t wanna help out with anything. We had to Ask for more soap and toiletpaper a few time before we got it. Not staying here next time!!

Minimal car parking but we did manage to get a space. Room was clean but very basic. Double be extremely uncomfortable. Room was above the beer garden so very very noisy. Music came on at 11pm outside until after midnight. Shouting and swearing until well after midnight. Breakfast was fine and the girls working in the morning we’re helpful. Manager unhelpful and didn’t see any problems.

Stayed as a group travelling. Rooms cheap. Very central which is ideal. Bed quite hard but I prefer that. My friends did not. Breakfast included in price was good. Did not use bar but it sounded lively.

Stayed at The Highland Hotel over a weekend at the end of March. The hotel is clean and warm. The receptionist at the time even recognised us from a year ago, so check in for four people was really easy. One point about the hotel is that there is limited off street car parking, so car keys have to be handed over if your car is to be left there for any lent of time so the hotel could move it if needs be. We happened to leave our spare keys, which we forgot about after checkout. The hotel was kind enough to send the keys on free of charge. The attached restaurant is really nice. Excellent food every time we have stayed. Even accommodated me having a gluten intolerance. Best email in advance to be sure of breakfast food. Overall this is the hotel we will revisit every time we come up to Aberdeen, highly recommend this hotel

Great to find somewhere that does traditional bar food rather than all this fancy "stuff". Friendly staff willing to help and great choice from menu all well cooked. Great value for money and would recommend.
