The Aberdeen Douglas Hotel stands out for its prime central location, which reviewers frequently commend for its convenience to transportation and local attractions. While the hotel's atmosphere is often described as welcoming, with a notable bar and well-maintained public spaces, guests' experiences with the rooms are mixed. Some find the accommodations spacious and clean, yet others mention dated interiors and discomfort due to noise and temperature. The service also receives mixed reviews, ranging from praise for staff professionalism to critiques of rudeness. Cleanliness is a consistent positive, with many guests impressed by the spotless environment. However, the value proposition divides opinion, with some considering it excellent and others deeming it overpriced.

Stayed for two nights. Located in a busy main road but this didn’t affect my sleep and I had a room at the front. Breakfast comes in a bag and is made up of a croissant, yogurt, a piece of fruit and a small juice.
Hotel is clean with sanitising stations and I’ve way systems throughout.
I had a wait to check-in/check-out.
Parking is available round the corner and costs £7 per day.

Stayed here for one night on a family tour of the highlands. Centrally located and a minutes' walk from the excellent maritime museum. The rooms were comfortable but with little natural light as regards those we were given. Had a breakfast in the hotel bistro (Molly's Bistro) which was a bit disappointing. There is a small hotel car park but best to use the multi-storey close by (NCP Shiprow) which was well kept and good value at £8 to park overnight. Was very reasonably priced for a hotel right in the centre centre and we enjoyed our stay here.

Was unsure of location of car parking so decided to just park at Union Square. Upon arriving at the hotel the front reception area looked great and we were pleasantly surprised, check in was easy and pleasant enough. When we arrived at our room we instantly felt disappointment, the carpet was quite dirty, the window ledge and area beside the radiators were dusty, the wardrobe door was broken, shower had hair init and and the plastic seal on the shower door was filty. Most disturbingly there was a used cotton bud and one ear plug in our bin. We didn't even take our clothing out of our bags, if I hadn't paid already then I wouldn't have stayed as I was so disappointed, safe to say we won't return.

This hotel is just awful and I wouldn’t recommend anyone to stay here. The photos in the pictures are nothing like the real photos. The whole place needs redecorating. The rooms are very shabby and dirty and looks like they haven’t been decorated for 30 years. Very depressing rooms to be in. There is no air conditioning in the entire place and no fans and the bedrooms are the last places you want to be in. The breakfast was good and plenty of choice but that room was also shabby and dull and very hot. The staff in the hotel aren’t friendly or helpful or efficient. Nobody to show you to your table. You either just stand there and wait or do what I did and just go and sit down. During the day there is Mollys Bar on the ground floor where you can have lunch or a snack or drink and that is bright and airy and seems out of place compared to the rest of the hotel. But if you want a drink after 9pm you could be out of luck as the bar closes at 9pm. I was told that it used to close at 8pm. If you want a drink you have to ask the receptionist but you’ll have a long wait. There is a bar around the corner called Malones Bar and I gather it belongs to the hotel although the staff at the hotel seemed to try and distance itself from the bar. They have good reasons too as well. It is very rough and filthy. One of these places that you would see in the 1920’s. I was scared in there. I had one quick drink and left as quick as I could. The reception in the hotel was so inefficient. There was only one member of staff on at any one time. Trying to check out was a very difficult task. As the receptionist started the check out procedure she had to keep answering the phone and take bookings which lasted forever. After she finished the call and started dealing with me again the phone went and I said can you finish my check out and leave the phone till after and she said her priority is answering the phone. I said isn’t there anybody else that can come and deal with things and she said no. The only one good thing about the hotel is that is just minutes from the new shopping centre and the station and that’s the only reason I added an additional star. I wouldn’t even stay there again if it was free. In fact I checked out a day early and went to stay at the Marriott for the last night and it was heavenly.

Pros: central location, well equipped apartments, toaster kettle microwave etc. That’s about it.
Cons: the rooms are roasting hot (24 degrees on our baby room thermometer) and you can’t have the windows open unless you want to be woken be seagulls every 20 minutes. A fan or decent room ventilation would help this. The travel cot we were supplied was atrocious! I wouldn’t have let my dog sleep in it let alone my three month old. Luckily he can sleep in the carry cot we have for his pram. They knew we were travelling with a young baby and still gave us a room up the stairs. If there was a lift in this part of the building we certainly couldn’t find it and the girl on reception was worse than useless when we enquired. When we arrive we went in and asked about the car park which is a tiny bit of waste land at the back of the hotel that you have to pay to use. There is a coded barrier but the receptionist failed to tell us the code so once we got to the carpark we had to phone back round and ask her what it was. She just couldn’t have bothered less. The bed was so uncomfortable I can’t even explain. We kept rolling into the centre because the springs were clearly knackered. They have stuck a 3cm mattress topper on it like that would help! You’re charging us £95 a night on a Monday night, buy a new mattress! None of the lamps in the apartment worked so had to have the main lights on the whole time. The breakfast was disgusting my partner left so much of it and that’s really not like him at all. The continental breakfast (cheek to call it that) is even worse! We won’t be back and we visit Aberdeen a lot.

My wife and I spent two sleepless nights in this hotel. We reserved and paid for an Executive Double room that was supposed to have a fireplace and sofa. Instead we got a west-facing room with two chairs, no fan, no air conditioning and plenty of street noise. The curtains had been left open and the windows left closed, so we arrived at night to a stifling hot room. Only one of the room’s two windows opened and had to be held open with a waste basket. No cool air managed to get in, however. Sleepless the first night, we requested a fan from the front desk and got one of those little personal fans about five inches high that are totally worthless. In addition, our bathroom sink didn’t drain (it filled to capacity during a quick face wash, then took several minutes to drain). We asked for it to be fixed, but the front desk said it couldn’t be taken care of over a weekend unless their engineer “popped in” on his day off — the sink had obviously been this way for some time and a maid couldn’t have cleaned the sink without immediately noticing and reporting the problem. Breakfast was a very average buffet in an overcrowded “too small” space. The staff was indifferent and did nothing to fix our problems (except for the little fan).

On the plus side, reception gave us two free drink tickets on check-in because we were celebrating our 58th wedding anniversary on this trip.

We simply don’t understand the Traveler’s Choice designation for this hotel (we were staying in one of their top category — and most expensive — rooms.

NEVER AGAIN!

I arrived at check in a bit early and was told my room was not ready, fare enough I then came back 30 mins before check in and was told still not ready. I then said well must be by 2pm as that is actual check in time and she said nothing in life is guaranteed. This lady was impolite and was un welcoming and basically rude. I finally checked in shortly after 2pm by a very friendly receptionist things are looking up... Anyway got to the room it was tiny I mean absolutly the smallest hotel room I have ever stayed in and certainly nothing like the classic double on the hotel website. There was only one pillow one towel and one mug meaning this is a single room? I called reception said I need to switch she said we were full. I was not happy, I then peeled back the bed sheets there were brown and red stains in the sheets absolutely horrified I went down myself and basically ordered her to change me around to another room. Few clicks later she handed me a new key with delight I headed up to my new quarters and was a much bigger room away from the stairs, with a bath tub. With glee and sense of achievement on my face I went and thanked her and moved my things into the other room. The first thing that is very apparent in this hotel is it is not looked after there are lots of areas that are in serious need to renovation. My bathroom had a big gap in between the mirror and tiles. Looking closer I could see the old tiles had just been put over the top. The selant in the bathroom I think was done by a blind man and snakes around the basin, one of the bathroom tiles is coming off as well! Also the kettle in the room did'nt automatically turn off so went in for a shower came out and its still boiling shows no one checks anything. The cups were filthy and the bed is like sleeping on concrete. Many comments in trip advisor about the breakfast and yes is horrible. If your still wanting an independent hotel I would recommend the station hotel or save your money all together and stay at the Ibis small modern rooms, but clean and cheap.

We booked in as a family (several rooms) for a few nights and we selected this hotel due to the location.

However the hotel is very tired (at least the rooms that we had) they were extremely dull and to be honest quite depressing to be in. If I had travelled solo, I'd have left early. Although there was a frosted window in the room (no window in the bathroom) there was very little natural light and unfortunately there was constant rattling below my window coming from machinery or generator so got no sleep either. Add that to the live music below, and the noise from staff in the ally below, it wasn't a relaxing stay.

The rooms on their website look lovely, but the rooms we had were very nothing like this, the carpets, walls and surfaces were really dirty. The bathroom on first impression looked okay, but the shower needed a really deep clean. Whilst this wasn't an expensive hotel [we paid around £80 each per night room only] this certainly wasn't worth the money.

I was really disappointed in my stay here and had been looking forward to staying in what looked like a lovely comfortable hotel, but sadly it wasn't to be.

I stayed here for a night last week. The hotel is in the heart of Aberdeen, a 5 minute walk from the bus & train stations, close to Union Street and almost next door to the Maritime Museum (well worth a visit).
Check in was quick and the receptionist was friendly- as were all the staff I met.
My room was spotlessly clean, comfortable and spacious.
Breakfast was very good and worth paying extra for- only thing to note it finishes at 9am weekdays which seems quite early.
Price wise, my stay was very good value. Booked only the day before for £89 B&B which was cheaper than most places in the city.
I stay in Aberdeen quite often but this was my first time at the Douglas- it wont be my last though.

I don't think there is a laundry service in hotel. I also don't think a laundry service company is nearby hotel-you might need to travel 15/20 minutes.
