Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Only stayed one night for business but it was fantastic. The room was well presented, felt luxurious. seemed newer and fresher than a lot of the hotel Ive stayed at lately, I wish I could have stayed longer. Only downside was, the breakfast wasn't great. nothing bad but could be better.

Hotel's Favourite
Maryculter House is a slice of heaven in the highlands, from check in to check out the welcome is friendly and warm and staff going the extra mile comes as standard. The rooms are well appointed and very comfortable , a lot of thought has gone into their design. There is a proper carton of milk in the fridge and a personal cafetière plus still and sparkling water in cans (very environmentally friendly). There are Molten Brown toiletries and a very comfy bathrobe. We stayed in a River View room and were lucky enough to see a seal, a kingfisher and an otter all from the comfort of our room. The food at Maryculter House is excellent. Breakfast caters for every taste and includes smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, a Full Scottish and even porridge with a wee dram of Royal Lochnagar whisky. We ate our evening meal in Poachers which has an open fire for added ambience and windows overlooking the Dee. I had the chicken with wild mushrooms and sweet potato which was superb both in taste and presentation. The sommelier was very knowledgeable and the wines were good value for money. There is a bar area for those just wanting a drink and a good selection of whisky and gin. Maryculter House also does packages including concerts at the P&J in Aberdeen. We enjoyed the Rod Stuart event in December last year and it was amazing value for money. We had fantastic seats, access to the VIP lounge and were chauffeured there and back. A great meal in poachers before the event plus a night cap in the great hall when we got back. It was a complete experience and worth every penny. Maryculter House is the perfect destination for a weekend or even longer and we will certainly be heading back there as soon as we can.

This place was an incredible find!! It came highly recommended from a family member and I can see why. Excellent service and super friendly staff that were very helpful. Comfort bed, beautiful view over the river and lovely grounds to explore. We went on our honeymoon and can’t believe the welcome we received 🥰

Not a stay, booked for Sunday lunch as a treat for my wife and I, confirmed the booking and blow me, 30 minutes before we were due to set off, they called to say no booking - a mistake - what a TUI moment!

Stayed one night in one of the Heritage Riverview rooms. The room was beautiful, clean and very comfortable. We had a meal in the restaurant and it was lovely, good portion sizes. The hotel had a lovely relaxed atmosphere and the staff here very helpful. Must say they make the best Old Fashioned cocktails. Would definitely recommend and will visit again. Thanks for a lovely stay.

Booked a 2 night New year package and enjoyed every second of it, The river side room was beautiful, housekeeping was the best I’ve ever experienced. The staff were exceptional we felt so pampered nothing was too much trouble for them, the lovely girl at dinner went out her way to get me something else when nothing suited me, absolute angel ! Enjoyed the New Year’s party and the wine tasting though I’m not a wine drinker so got rather sloshed 😂 . Breakfast was great and once again cannot praise every single member of staff high enough we were totally spoilt and can’t wait to come back to this stunning hotel.

A little disappointing, expectation was too high. Stayed for one night with an evening meal and breakfast. Beautiful place and setting but needing a little more attention to detail. Considering a power cut due to storm Gerrit the night before. Phoned prior to coming to find out about the power and menu to never receive a call back and the reception quine had no idea. Evening meal was reduced menu which still incurred a £7.70 tip! There was hair in the bathroom on the floor, toilet and towel. There was no hot water available in your room to have a shower with no compensation, only alternative option was a different room to shower which was the option for all guests in the hotel. Nice place but improvements needed.

We’ve spent the past three nights over Christmas at Maryculter House and have loved every minute! The staff couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful- a big shout out to the GM (great with his history of the place), Callum, and ‘Als’ (-Aileen) she was a hoot! Joe the bartender made us amazing drinks and was perfectly charming! We felt like we were part of a big extended family, the food, the atmosphere, the amazing setting - we will absolutely be back. Thank you one and all at MCH for making it a Christmas to remember. You all work exceptionally hard. The Laslett gang! X

Very nice staff and plenty of them. Just a few quibbles! Booked four nights in a pet friendly room. Room being operative word as they are not allowed anywhere else. You cannot take your pets with you to breakfast or dinner so if they bark on being left alone. Tough. Access to garden through patio doors which we couldn't lock, bit of maintenance required here, also very stiff to close. No information folder available as it was being updated, As a result we had to refer to the website for any information we required with no confirmation that it was up to date. A history of the house was provided by reception after asking. Fascinating reading but no guide to the relevant parts of the house where to find any historical parts. Very historical house which should be promoted, dating back to Knights Templar times with KT cemetery in the grounds. Severe lack of drawer space. Don't know what your target market is but ladies do not want their undies on show, need more drawers!
