400 quid a night. dark dingy room. couldn't read a book with all lights on. Damp patch on ceiling half the size of the bed. Curtains soaking wet not just damp either. Bottles clanking out the back all night with yahoos etc hardly slept a wink. Complained...no staff were interested. Couldn't feed us and were directed to a pub round...

This is the second time I have been for afternoon tea here. My sister and I have now decided when we visit the city we will go. The great room is fabulous. The sandwiches, scones and cakes are all fab. Both times we were unable to finish and took a number of cakes home ( they were great). The staff...

Spent one night at the Merchant with my husband and our expectations were exceeded. The hotel was so unique in decor and service. I would definitely recommend splurging on this place. The most memorable part of our experience was Martin from the reception area. He took us on a tour of the hotel and gave us some historical background. Martin...

From the first second you step into the lobby, every aspect of your stay in this hotel will be enjoyable and fulfilling. The reception staff....welcoming and engaging, the porters.....relaxed, friendly and informed of the history of the building. Your experience will then be enhanced when you see the style and quality of your room, no detail has been missed. Very...

The welcome from front of house staff was perfection without being intrusive. Our room in the old part of the hotel was gorgeous, and just right for our special occasion. Everything perfect, and cleanliness ++

My family went to the Merchant Hotel for only one night, and we were blown away by the service level, decor and overall quality of the hotel. The food was great, and the cocktail bar was even better. The staff in general was fantastic and friendly, but Peter, a concierge at the hotel made our trip outstanding. Upon arrival (from...

Not offered extra so started on the gooey desserts - v sickly sweet and sticky- nice but you could only take a mouthful. After 30 mins having dessert, were offered extra sandwiches which was...

Stayed two nights in a beautiful corner Art Deco room. We had a very large bathroom and I loved the small makeup area near the closet. We had some difficulty booking an (unreserved) dinner table in the Great Room on the first night, but Micheal at the front desk did his utmost and eventually secured us a table. This Victorian...
