I realise now that it's silly to hope for a cheap, private room in a hostel: you'll find a cheaper, much better quality stay in a B&B/guest house. Whereas they have some private rooms but they are basic, not very clean, and you may want to avoid the shared toilet/shower facilities. Sorry, folks, this one is not for me.

This hostel is idea for students. The staff are students that live in so there is a homely & collective feel, like a student flat. There is lots of info about Belfast in the hostel which is very useful. You can book both the amazing black taxi & Antrim coast/giants causeway tours from the hostel staff (at a good price)...

Lagan's was an affordable and fun place to stay. The staff was awesome. The hostel provided a cooked breakfast for free as well as a dinner you could purchase for 3 pounds. We loved our stay here the first time around, we booked beds here our second trip into Belfast as well.

Nice place right in the heart of belfast city for a solo or even group of backpackers. Has a vegetarian breakfast option, a big tv room with sofas. The hotel guys were pretty helpful. They let you store your luggage on the day of checkout which is not found at many budget places.

Quite dirty and a bit smelly. Bathroom facilities are poor and showed don't drain very well. But offers a free breakfast, including an English breakfast, which was good. Also offer movies and Netflix on a big screen. Has a good location close to restaurants that range in prices.

For 15 quid a night, this place is decent enough - comfortable beds, friendly staff, good WiFi and a common room to hang out if you wish. yes, it's not that clean! and yes, there aren't that many bathrooms! We didn't have any issues with noise and we stayed on the weekend of tennents vital so it obviously is just...

Hostel is 15 minutes on foot from the city centre, but it is really close to the University and Botanic Garden. It has breakfast included and it is not bad; you have four or five different options, including English breakfast. Bad point: few toilets for too many people. Each bed has a curtain (most of the times) and there are...

I visited Lagan backpackers with two friends, and the stay has been both positive and negative. What I absolutely loved is the cosy atmosphere amongst fellow travellers; the common room was always busy and the hostel really invested in that (common dinners, pub crawls, etc.) The room was basic, but OK. The bathrooms and showers were dated and poorly maintained....

I stayed at Lagan Backpackers for 3 nights in a 5 bed mixed dorm. On my last night I was roomed with 4 other guys. All of whom came into the room at 2 am, turned on all the lights and were talking about me as if I wasn't even there. It made me really uncomfortable and I barely slept....

Thank you for your review; the point you make about the mixed dorms is a good one...but not always possible when we are fully booked... Pleased that you found the staff, £3 dinner and free cooked breakfast good. I have spoken to staff; we cant understand your problem with the showers...we have constant hot water..

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Included is a FREE English Breakfast that includes Bacon, Sausage, egg, beans and toast. Or Porridge or scrambled eggs and bacon. Please note breakfast is strictly between 8 and 10 with no exceptions. All breakfast served only with coffee or tea. Lagan Backpackers is simply a large Belfast house that has been converted into a Backpackers Hostel; and it is owned and run by a South African guy who knows what backpackers want. Our high ratings are mostly due to the great attention and recommendations that you can expect from both myself and my staff. My idea for a great hostel is very simple: to make you feel at home. To give you a comfortable bed to sleep in, to keep the noise down after eleven to ensure a peaceful sleep and to make you feel so at home that you make new friends and enjoy Belfast as much as possible. We provide advice on all tours of Northern Ireland, and will only recommend tours that we have personally experienced. We advise that our customers do not pre-book tours before visiting as we find that some tour operators overcharge and do not provide the level of customer satisfaction that we expect for our guests. In addition to this, Lagan Backpackers hostel is very friendly to single travellers, as we go the extra mile to make sure you enjoy your stay. We are located minutes from the City Centre, the Lagan River and the picturesque Queens University campus; and mere moments away from the lively Botanic Avenue where there are many restaurants, shops, pubs and clubs for our customers to enjoy. Additionally, the Botanical Gardens that boast beautiful greenhouses and the famed Tropical Ravine is a short walk away, adjacent to the Ulster Museum. ** No groups, stag parties, hen parties or drunken weekends like Paddys day!! Please remember only for the 11,12,13,14 July I do not accept booking from people from the UK (England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales..Also no American or Canadian band members). This is only for the marching season. No refunds on deposits will be given and you will be turned away on arrival. No stag or hen parties or groups without prior permission. ... more   less
