Check-in was a slow process, but the staff were all very friendly.

The room was quite basic, akin to Premier Inn, and dimly lit. The bed was comfortable and there were nightstands at each side--BUT--unfortunately, there were zero power outlets at bedside, only a USB port, which isn't helpful when your devices all use micro USB and you don't travel with an adapter--c'mon, Holiday Inn, get with the 21st century & put power hubs at each nightstand! The room had a tea kettle, iron, and ironing board. No mini fridge even though there's some space for one.

The bathroom had a shower only. The water pressure was ok and the hot water stayed hot. No magnifying mirror, unfortunately. One of the towels was dirty! It's as though someone just folded up a used towel, dirty with make up stains, and housekeeping put it on the shelf for the next guest. Ick!

Breakfast was blah. The WiFi was strong but not password protected (boo!). The hotel's open-air parking lot had ample space but became quite full at night.

Ok for a night but don't think I could stay here for more than that.

Me and my girlfriend were so happy to come across this hotel, we booked this hotel as we couldn’t get anywhere near Cardiff for a concert as so many places were selling their rooms for extortionate prices. This was a perfect location as it avoided all the chaos of the city and also was in a nice quiet location that was easy to drive in and out of, the staff were very helpful in recommending taxi services and advice and also with assisting with toiletries we had forgotten. It was a very clean hotel and the food was fantastic! We are so grateful that this hotel didn’t raise its prices and only cared about our custom and making us welcome to wales. Would give more stars if possible just because of the great price for a service that deserves to be so much more expensive, thank you all at Newport holiday inn express!

This budget hotel is located just off the M4 on the edge of Newport. It has plenty of parking which is free if you enter your car registration number upon arrival. I found the hotel comfortable and well maintained and the staff friendly and helpful.

The breakfast was ok and there were items suitable for vegans and those with a milk allergy if you asked the staff.

I didn't try the evening meals which were available as the excellent Dragonfly pub is next door.

I had a pleasant stay at this holiday inn express. I slept really well which was good. The bedroom if a little tired looking was spotlessly clean apart from a small hair or two in the shower tray.
The breakfast proposition was the standard HI express offering. Nothing more and nothing less. I ate in the restaurant each evening. The menu is ok, some meals better than others. Nachos are great. Gyros style wrap terribly dry. My only criticism would be the service in the restaurant, it’s a bit canteen like with one of the waitresses in particular was quite loud and abrupt. Plate plonked on your table with no offer if you needed anything. That said it seems to be quite a well run hotel.

Great facilities, ideal location and pleasant service combined to make this great hotel. We've used this hotel for number of years to visit family nearby and never disappoints. Also recently added new items to the hot breakfast choices which is included in rate. Special mentions to Owen and Jamie on reception who were especially helpful. Ideally located close to M4 and A48 and free parking by logging car reg on arrival

They will not take cash, zero signage, they don't tell you prior just a bad attitude if you try.

I had booked to pay at property, why would they even have this option if they didn't take cash!

When I pulled out cash to pay the receptionist was rude and and condescending, talking to me as if were some sort of simpleton that couldn't understand English. She was extremely rude telling me I booked via Booking.com so of course I couldn't pay by cash - despite many hotels allowing you to book but only pay when their in cash.

This was after we had stood at the reception desk for about 10 minutes, she did start to come up to us at one point but when she saw us waiting quickly ran off. So we had to go and ask her to come over.

If a hotel is going to refuse the currency of the the country you live in they need to make it very clear, not just being rude about it when you try and pay.

I bet they'd take cash if their card machine was broken.

This are seems to have a problem with rude staff, we've tried most of the hotels around here and they all seem to treat you like something they have stepped in.

Despite their dislike of old fashioned money, they don't provide any USB sockets and the rooms look like something from 1992.

We got twin beds even though I'd booked a double, pillows were awful little squares, perhaps they could try getting normal pillows.

The shower was also like something from the past, zero power, just a dribble of water.

Extremely limited breakfast beyond bacon and packet scrambled eggs.

This hotel has become our go to place to stay when we need to break our journey from home (Cornwall) to anywhere ‘up north’.

We first stayed here to go to the Tredegar Folk Festival and the hotel team clearly loved having performers and visitors staying and were embracing the mix of cultures.

There is ample free parking, it is conveniently situated just off the M4 near the lovely Tredegar House.

Even though it is close to the motorway and busy during the folk festival the hotel rooms are quiet. The rooms also have excellent blackout curtains so it’s possible to rest and recharge.

The hotel staff are very friendly and greet us with a warm welcome. The hotel is also always spotlessly clean, and there is a good choice of gin in the bar!

Within a mile of the hotel there is as Asda which has 24hour fuel and local shops with takeaways / places to eat.

I booked for a one night stay with nine family members the night before a funeral. All our rooms were lovely, ( my cousins room smelled of smoke but they changed her room quickly , quite late in the evening too, so no complaints there ) . My Aunt needed a wheelchair accessible room and again no problems. My room was a large double with a sofa, it would have slept four but I had it to myself, it cost the same as a single so why not have extra space. It had great air con, a good quality tv, tea and coffee making facilities, a lovely shower room ( clever design ) , a hair drier, everything you’d need and expect for a reasonably priced chain hotel. Free parking and plenty of it ( do not forget to put your reg into the iPad at reception ) . The free breakfast was great, buffet style with bacon, eggs, sausage, toast, croissants, cereal, yogurt and fruit. The only downside was it’s out of the town the only place in walking distance is the pub next door, however the pub next door is fantastic, with beautiful food which I thought was very reasonable considering the excellent quality. The hotel also serves food and has a bar. To summarise it’s a great hotel, with great facilities, I paid £99 through bookings.com , others in our party paid less and some more, between £97 a room to £125 , but we all got value for money.

Needed a place to stay with watching Brentford play Newport in the cup and wanting to hike up the Brecon Beacons the next day (a 45 minute drive).

This is ideally located just a 10 minute drive to town centre. The car park is free for hotel users you will need to register your car.

Staff very friendly and attentative.

Rooms are very clean and spacious. Beds reasonable comfortable. Shower nice and hot. Coffee and Tea available in room. TV present with a bunch of normal channels you find on freeview.

Breakfast is included - Excellent. Usual options, english breakfast, cereals, toast, fruit etc.

I would stay here again for sure.

I was traveling with my daughter and on a visit to my sisters we discovered we needed to borrow my Brother-in-law's car to bring additional items to my daughters car. We brought both cars over then had breakfast on arriving at 8:40 AM both vehicles leaving at 9:51 AM after checking out and breakfast. 7 days later my brother in law was sent a bill by a company called Private Eye for 60 UK pounds I will certainly not recommend this location to my friends and family ever again. I want to warn everyone to warn others of this disgraceful practice. There were no signs in the parking lot or Lobby warning that multiple vehicles were not allowed per booking.

Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for your review. It is disappointing that you have scored us 2 out of 5 for your stay due to the parking. Our car park is managed by parking eye and there is a sign displayed on every lamp post asking for the car to be registered in reception if using our facilities to avoid receiving a fine. This needs to be done for all cars brought into the car park and multiple cars per room is allowed. If you are yet to contact the hotel directly please do so and we can assist in appealing this fine. Many thanks Philippa Hotel Operations Manager
