The staff were welcoming and helpful, and quickly found a new room for me immediately after first checking-in, as I stepped into first assigned room and straight back out…The rear of the hotel backs onto a relatively busy road, and due to the very rainy weather the noise of the cars hissing by was very loud in the room, even on the 5th floor.
The replacement room was on the front and very quiet. I didn’t hear any neighboring rooms despite the hotel being quite busy. Only the occasional door slamming in the hallway. The carpet was being replaced in the property during my visit, and my room had recently been done as the carpet was very soft and clean. The beds were firm, but I sleep better that way. The general cleanliness was OK, but there were hairs along the wall in the bathroom, along with questionable stains and it definitely felt tired.
The tired feeling continued through the bedroom. The wallpaper and furniture really shows its age, and the lighting was not great. The one spotlight on the wall over the desk would flicker and then just switch off for a while. The iron was a dry iron, rather than my preferred steam iron.
Unfortunately the climate control system would only blow the same warm air regardless of the temperature selected. I could live with this IF the windows could be opened. They can’t. The first room had a tiny vent over the window, but that didn’t do much other than let in more road noise. My second room didn’t even have that.
No working AC or access to an opening window is a dealbreaker for me, and a single reason why I will stay elsewhere next time I am in town.
There was the usual reminder to “help save the planet, by reusing towels” information sticker on the wall. I am all for doing my bit. Unfortunately the hotel uses single-use body soap and shampoo squeeze packs. I had used about 3/4 of one, and housekeeping simply replaced it. The thought of the plastic waste caused by this was a little disappointing. I would urge the management to consider moving to refillable wall mounted soap dispensers.
Breakfast was satisfactory, and when charged at £17, feels fair for what it was.
The location was easy to access, and ideal for my needs. You can access any part of Cardiff with relative ease and I walked into the centre of Cardiff in about 30 minutes.
The staff at check-in were very friendly. Parking is free for hotel guests. But when registering the license plate at the terminal, the system indicated that there was no connection to the Internet - a problem that appeared throughout the house: The wifi didn't work for a second during our stay, we were here for three days.
One of the two lifts was also defective, so using the remaining lift became a test of patience.
The room was quite spacious but gloomy, everything a bit old-fashioned in brown and beige - wall, carpet, furniture... The toilet is well hidden, because when you opened the door to the bathroom you automatically closed the access to the toilet. It took us a moment to figure that out.
It has a Dolce Gusto coffee machine and an in-room kettle. However, the used coffee capsules have not been replaced, which is a shame.
The TV has very few channels and some radio programs - even common TV channels do not run.
In the shower there were big problems with the warm water, it was pure coincidence whether warm water came or not. You turned and pressed and tasted, eventually it worked - that was extremely tedious, especially when standing naked in the bathtub. With shower curtain in the back, because there is no shower cubicle.
The breakfast buffet is average at best. It offers the classic elements of an English breakfast, but in unappealing quality. The selection of other dishes such as cereal, cheese or cold cuts is very small.
For coffee, all guests must attend a(!) Turn on the machine, which can lead to long lines from 8.30 am. Alternatively, there is a pitcher with filter coffee next to it.
All in all, the hotel is a disappointment rather than a highlight. But if you want to be close to Cardiff Bay and don’t have high standards, you’re sure to be in good hands here.
The hotel is easy to get to from Cardiff Central train station. I ended up walking as it was a nice day and it took just under half an hour so a taxi ride is very quick. From the moment I arrived at the hotel, the staff were wonderful. Every single staff member I encountered during my stay was pleasant and helpful. The hotel is really nice and my room was really lovely. Everything was really clean and the bed was really comfortable.
The restaurant is quite small and I didn't eat at this for an evening meal so I can't comment on it, but it is the location for breakfast in the morning. As it can get quite busy, rather than standing in a queue and waiting for a table to become available, the lady seating everyone had you sit in the lounge part and just move along, so it was quite refreshing to have a queuing system where you could sit down, relax, and grab a drink while you wait. It was so well organised and it wasn't long before I was seated. Breakfast was well stocked and tasty.
If I had any thing to fault at all - and I would really have to be picky - it would be that the hotel room doors are very thick fire doors, which is wonderful for safety but not so great for heaviness. They are quite heavy to push open and make a real bang when shutting. From my point of view, this was not a problem as I have respect for other guests and don't just let the door bang close but hold it until it closes, however, you can't account for other people and there were many just letting their doors slam. This is honestly hardly a concern though.
I would highly recommend this hotel and feel quite lucky that I ended up staying here for such a great occasion.
The staff were relatively friendly and the hotel was clean and everywhere felt very spacious. The rooms were nice if a little dated in decor, and the beds surprisingly comfy. My only issues with the stay was the some of the rooms on the same floors doors being really loud when they were closed late at night, other than that I’d probably stay here again!

Unfortunately this year very poor.
1) WI-FI doesn’t work check with other guests they couldn’t log on.
2) pillows thin and uncomfortable. Asked reception for more pillows they were going to send some up never came.
3)1x soap and 1x shampoo little sachets more than 1 person staying.
4) food ok not a good selection especially continental basic cereal 1x selection of croissants 3x cereals.
Cook breakfast nice. Drinks lovely.
The Room was clean just unfortunate there more to a stay than a clean room. When you go away for a break and de stress that’s what you want to pay for. Sorry poor experience.
I came back this year as I loved my stay relaxing last year unfortunately in my eyes the hotel has gone down hill Sorry to say I had to give a bad review paying over £160 for a night not worth it
Lots of parking.
Booked a suite and it was a good size with 2 genuinely separate rooms.
Loads of restaurants all within a 5 minute walk.
Friendly staff
Very big bed, but the bedding really was not big enough.
Not so good was the colour of the furniture, muddy brown/beige which just makes it look dirty. Room had power points but not vey accessible. Bath had a shower over this and a shower curtain - shower curtains are never that welcoming a prospect, even more so when they start to move in and touch you whilst showering.
Breakfast a bit chaotic with coffee machines and toaster being real pinch points and access to the buffet being very narrow. Fried egg was cold which is not appealing.
Overall this felt like a bit American chain hotel that relies on high volume of one night stays and not repeat business.
