Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had a pleasant 1 night stay here as we visited Llandaff Cathedral to watch a concert. The hotel was clean and our triple bedroom was fairly spacious with a lot of cupboard space. I used the pool, gym, steam room and sauna - which were all pretty decent. The jacuzzi was out of order. Every member of staff I came across the hotel was very friendly. I am giving this hotel 4 stars as the parking was inadequate and expensive as many others here have remarked. And the breakfast at £16 is grossly overpriced. The breakfast was passable - but certainly not value for money for such a high price. Would I stay again? Probably for the pool and gym etc.

The gym equipment has been out of order for over a month now. The swimming pool and shower area could be cleaner. There are mould spots in the steam room… It would be great if someone would be able to have a look at the things from the list above. On a positive note, the spa staff are friendly and helpful.

**guve this place a miss**** As a group we went to the spa and arranged afternoon tea for my daughters birthday. Cost of spa £25. Cost of afternoon tea £15. Upon arrival you then have to pay another £5 for hire of a robe and towel. We were not allowed to use the relaxation room as we had not arranged treatments (even though we were told to arrange treatments on the day). Around the pool there were no loungers to accommodate us, all being taken by the numerous children that was attending. Afternoon tea was awful. 2 finger sandwiches, 1 scone with cream and jam no butter. And 3 awful little cakes all with chocolate fondant. I have had much better at different establishments. The Vale, Celtic Manor, all the hotels in cardiff Town centre offer afternoon tea which has been a delight to eat

Overnight stay with my sister and our partners as we had tickets to see Ricky Gervais close by. We had a few drinks in the bar before going out. The lady, Levi, who served us was really chatty, welcoming and friendly. Our rooms were spacious and clean. We slept well in the very comfortable bed before enjoying a delicious breakfast, followed by relaxing in the sauna/steam room/pool in the hotels onsite spa for a couple hours.

To Mr Wael Elassal, I am writing  this review to complain about he low standards of cleanliness at the Mercure Spa on Newport Road in Cardiff. I am a member and there has been a significant decline in standards over the last few months. Most recently I have been disgusted to see flies around the edge of the swimming pool. I have reported this to staff on duty on 3 occasions and this has not yet been resolved. In addition to this, the floors are rarely clean. The general condition of the pool is also poor- there is now a hosepipe running from the taps in the ladies changing room into the pool.  There are many area of the poolside that are in need of repair, including paintwork and lights. Last Friday neither the Jacuzzi or sauna was working when I visited. I pay a monthly fee and I do not feel that these standards are at all acceptable and the service is not value for money.  Other items that I have noted over the last few months.. We had to use the men's changing rooms today and they were very dirty: the floor was covered in dirt and the lockers were dusty too.  The Jacuzzi was not working for over a week and the cleanliness of the pool has declined significantly: there has been tissue paper in the water for over a week and the floors  are often dirty in the changing rooms. The temperature of the water seems to have reduced greatly too. Is that intentional or a problem with the heating system? I signed up for a minimum of 3 months under the understanding that I would have 2 free passes per month and I could bring someone for free on a Wednesday. These were significant factors in deciding to join. They were taken away without notice. I would ask that these be reinstated.  Even if they are not reinstated for everyone, I should at least least be entitled for them for a 3 month period, as agreed.  I would assert that, for the price I am paying per month and the fact that, of late, at least the Wednesday privilege should be an extra bonus and incentive. Some other items to note: The ladies ' changing room does not have a swimming costume spinner, whereas the male changing broom does- could this be replaced?  The Jacuzzi has been out of use the last few times I visited - is this fixed? Thank you, I look forward for your response, V Constantinou

The hotel is a great location for a rugby weekend - far enough from the action to be quiet; close enough that everything is walking distance. The reception area is lovely; my room was functional, huge but tired; could definitely do with better pillows! 2 of the 4 lifts didn’t seem to be working, but that didn’t have a huge impact. I didn’t eat at the hotel or use the spa facilities so can’t comment on them. I’m a member of the Accor club, which is free and got me a room upgrade. Can also collect points and use those towards payment - although that took a lot of explaining when I checked out. The staff are great and what makes the hotel.

The room is good and the staff are friendly but the spa was gross. The mens changing room was filthy and clearly hadn't been cleaned for ages. The pool area itself is very much in need of redecorating with peeling paint and rusty metal work. Very disappointing indeed!!!!
