The host Rob and staff made us feel very welcome, and the atmosphere in the Inn was also cosy and welcoming.
We were invited to take part in what turned out to be a brilliant pub Quiz, we thoroughly enjoyed that.
Excellent selection of craft ales. and the quality of food on the comprehensive menu was very good indeed.
Bedlinen towels bed & bedlinen excellent and comfortable,
Breakfast first class.
Negative for us was that there was no comfortable chair in the room, making it difficult to relax.
The shower cubicle requires some deep cleaning, and TLC.
Carpet also quite grubby, Obviously caused by muddy and wet shoes.
Generally overall we enjoyed our stay here.
Regards
Tony & Viv

My partner and I had a one night stay and we couldn't have asked for better. On arrival the young lady at the bar and the woman who checked us in were both exceptionally helpful. The room was lovely with the perfect size and temperature but for me it was the fabulous bathroom that sealed the deal! Everything was done with wonderful professionalism and the little touches (proper milk with the tea/coffee things) went a long way to cementing our view that the place was just wonderful. Dinner in their restaurant was lovely and reasonably priced, I'm only sorry that we were too tired to venture down to the pub for a drink because I would have very much liked to. Thank you once again to all the staff who helped us during our stay. This property is a lovely place and for the location (20 mins from central Cardiff) you couldn't ask for better!

Highly recommended. Very comfortable dog friendly room. Idyllic location in a pretty village with great walks The Inn is the centre of village socialising with delicious food. Breakfast is freshly cooked and excellent. We were there on a very busy Wednesday evening - recommend booking for dinner. Transpires Beyoncé was in concert in Cardiff so it was more expensive than usual but value is usually great.

I asked for a quiet room and had just that, at the top of the house. For checkin you get a code to access your key in a safe, so I felt this was very impersonal. There was a plentiful supply of towels and toiletries. My breakfast was delicious and the woman who cooked and served it was very friendly. I had requested a top sheet and blanket as I don't use duvets but these were not provided. Luckily I had my own in my car. The restaurant was not open but I had been informed of this when I booked so I had a nice walk to a local pub.

Dear Brideswell, I was glad to read that you enjoyed your breakfast and I have passed your comments on to our chef :) I'm sorry to hear that your bedding request was not accommodated and you felt the check in process was impersonal. I hope one day we'll be able to welcome you back and better your experience!

Lovely welcome on arrival. Room perfect and as others have commented, fresh milk in the little fridge was SUCH a nice touch and in fact the actual fridge in the room was much appreciated. Everything very clean. Comfortable bed. Our dinner was most enjoyable - party of 15 for a Birthday Celebration - and breakfast was excellent too.
Thank you so much for your friendly hospitality.

We visited over the Bank Holiday Weekend for one night with our dog and I couldn’t recommend the pub enough. We booked directly so we were able to do the supper and sleep deal which meant our stay included breakfast, £50 off dinner and a complimentary bottle of wine.

Room was rustic but had everything we needed and the bed was incredible! King sized!

The only annoying thing was that our dog couldn’t sit with us for breakfast. There was only one couple upstairs eating and they didn’t mind. I’d understand if it was fine dining but he was upstairs the day before when we were checking in? Anyway, the staff were really helpful and let us eat our breakfast outside which was lovely as it was sunny!

Overall a lovely stay, in a quiet village and brilliant food. Highly recommend!

Thank you for reviewing, we're happy that you had a lovely stay with us. It is a shame though that, despite our correspondence, you didn't seem aware that although dogs are very welcome here, in the bar where we have stone floors, we don't allow dogs upstairs in the dining room on the carpeted floors. Hopefully this didn't detract too much from your overall stay.

I found the Gwaelod y Garth Inn by accident as wanted somewhere to stay after a visit to the Royal Mint.

Before we arrived I mentioned in passing on an email to Monika that it was a delayed Christmas present (COVID restrictions at the Mint etc) which we were combining with a celebration for my husband’s birthday. When we arrived we were shown to our room (room 1) to find a birthday card and cake - totally unexpected but a fantastic touch.

The room was a good size and the bed was extremely comfortable. We were slightly concerned that as we were next to the car park it would be really noisy but had one of the best nights sleep in a while.

We decided on a drink in the bar before dinner and the locals were as friendly as the staff (nice to see a pub which welcomes dogs). Good to see that although busy they don’t forget that it’s also a local pub.

Not sure where to start with the food, only word I can think of is DELICIOUS! Even that doesn’t do it justice, good sized portions, cooked perfectly. Slightly disappointed that I was too full for dessert but that just gives an additional reason to return.

Breakfast was to the same high standard and set us up for the day.

The underlying feature of the whole stay was the warm welcome & nothing is too much trouble attitude from everyone we met.

This was our first visit but certainly won’t be our last. As the title says really hard to beat.

I booked two nights because of its convenient location to Acapela Studio for 2 concerts. Staff was helpful in recommending a taxi company and connected me with another person who was attending the same concerts so we could share the taxi rides. The breakfast was cooked to order and really delicious. The room was in a extension with a separate entrance. It was large with a small fridge (glasses and milk bottle), several large angled windows so plenty of light and a nice view.

The pub is offering a regular tasty takeaway menu again, and we've enjoyed the hot tub dishes a lot. Last weekend, though, we went for the Valentine Special menu. We chose rack of lamb, which came with goats' cheese tartlets to start, and a dessert of chocolate fondue accompanied by all sorts of sweet and dainty little pastries, sweeties and fresh fruit. There were generous portions of dauphinois potatoes and vegetables to keep the tender lamb company - oh, and a nice bottle of wine, too. As usual with the special menu, cooking instructions were clear and simple. It was all very delicious, and made for a really enjoyable St Valentine's weekend occasion. Thankyou everyone involved, from the menu planning right through to the ethical packaging! Oops, can't stop, this week's offering's just popped up on Facebook, must go and phone in an order.

Wonderful Inn! Owners and staff top notch. Menus and quality of food were excellent too. Can’t recommend it more highly. Stayed for three nights and the standard of housekeeping was completely on the ball. The French chef creates some wonderful desserts and patisseries and makes great use of local produce. Make sure the waiting staff ring the bell. (You will understand if you go).
