Hotel's Favourite
Felt compelled to write a review after our recent visit to St. David's Hotel in Cardiff. We stayed 15/6/23. Greeted on arrival and given room 501. It was a particularly hot day and the room itself is situated on the very corner of the hotel and has two walls that are entirely glass. Although curtains were drawn it very warm. We fiddled with the air con but it made little to no difference to the room temperature. I called reception and promptly a maintenance man arrived at the door. He took the aircon unit apart and assured us that he thought the filter was blocked and that he'd fixed the issue. We sat and waited at least half an hour but there was no change. By this point my husband had taken a cold shower and I was considering whether the balcony was big enough for both of us to sleep on! The maintenance man spoke with reception and asked if we could change rooms, we returned to the lobby to see if a move was possible. We sat for no time at all and were approached by a smiley young lady who offered to take our cases and waved us over to the lift. She introduced herself as Jordan and apologised for the issue in the room and that she'd be happy to offer us an alternative. We were offered a free upgrade to a suite on the third floor which was absolutely beautiful. Large lounge area, with a bedroom off, a large bathroom with his and hers showers, a single balcony off the bedroom and an additional balcony sweeping the entire side of the suite. The room was cool and comfortable, complimentary bar, two vouchers for free drinks in the bar downstairs and a large number of restaurant recommendations! Within a very short space of time our stay has taken a huge turn. Jordan was so helpful, friendly and down to earth. The bed was comfortable with crisp white bed linen, fluffy white towels in the bathroom and beautiful toiletries. The room was peaceful throughout the night and I can't remember a better nights sleep at a hotel. The welcome at breakfast was second to none. Such a fantastic variety of beautiful fresh food on offer, freshly chopped melon, sliced orange and blood orange, grapefruit, peaches, pears, strawberries, pots of fresh Greek yoghurts and compotes. Beautiful pastries, fresh seeded breads, and an abundance of hot cooked breakfast delights. Just so much choice. I would recommend staying at St. Davids wholeheartedly, the staff were incredible, the food was faultless, the room felt luxurious, I left feeling rested and relaxed. A special mention to Jordan who took such great care of us and made our stay so memorable. Every hotel needs a Jordan on the staff!

I must say I always thought St David's was a little overrated. I was looking for a little last min spa treat for me and my partner and tried various places but St David's was the only place to have availability for us both so I took a chance on it and am so glad I did! I booked a full body massage but when I got there my therapist, Marzena, asked a few questions and could tell I was carrying a lot of tension in my back and shoulders so asked if I'd like to adjust my treatment to focus on my problem areas which I did and thank goodness I did! Felt world better leaving there! She also spoke to me after about my posture and the impact that was having/would have and made some recommendations (which I try to follow and think about daily) a huge thank you Marzena if you get to read this. We didn't stay for food but went for a coffee in the restaurant. It wasn't the greatest of weather's but the view would have been beautiful on a nice day... you could be anywhere in the world and the safe again very lovely and chatty. I only live 30 mins away but next time I might try an overnight stay there too it really impressed me that much.

I was delighted to arrive at this hotel and be given such a lovely room overlooking the bay and the water, with large bathroom and air con. Bed was comfortable and spotlessly clean, complimentary mineral water and biscuits provided. Lovely towels and toiletries in the bathroom. Staff in the bar were delightful, so professional and helpful ( rare at the moment). We had bar food and our server ( gentleman in long blue denim apron on duty 13/2/24) was exceptional. Have stayed a few times before and will certainly stay again.

I was given a Spa voucher for a special birthday last summer. Twice I had to cancel my bookings for ill health and then the extremely poor health of a relative. Both times the Spa staff were obliging, sympathetic and happy to rearrange, . Finally today, I had my two hour treatments, and what a lovely treat they were. The very friendly, but extremely professional Kanchan gave me the most fabulous back massage, followed by a salt oil body scrub, a body mask wrap, an express facial and a head massage. Each element was thorough, relaxing and truly enjoyable. I left feeling absolutely pampered and determined to return for Kanchan to treat me again. Thoroughly recommended.

My fault: I should have checked more carefully. But from start to finish our two night stay was blighted by dogs. For example: - mess being cleaned up in the lobby - mess not being cleaned up elsewhere - sniffing/licking the food at the breakfast buffet - growling/barking as we entered the lift The fixtures and fittings are starting to look a little tired too: gaffa tape securing a mirror in the lift; cracked tiles in our bathroom; dirty footprints on our corridor throughout the three days of our stay. However, the staff were fantastic and deserve a 5* rating. Reception, spa area and restaurant staff were friendly and seemed to go out of their way to make our experience enjoyable. It's a shame that their great work is let down by a management team that appears to be lacking diligence and have got it wrong: this was far from a 5* experience.

Took my best friend on a surprise 50th to Cardiff! Having done my research this hotel seemed to be in the best location (outside of Cardiff city centre) at Cardiff bay -mermaid quay - which is about a 3-4 minute walk away! Bus route 6 from centre! And it had great reviews! I contacted the hotel before arriving and Nikki was so lovely, she got back super quickly, and I cannot thank her enough!! 😘 Upon arrival the hotel looked impressive right on the water front! Check in was smooth and when we got to our room, wow we were blown away! My friend was gob smacked our view was to die for! It made her feel so special! Both of us couldn’t stop smiling! Throughout our 2 night stay everything was perfect, we visited the pool/spa twice a day! It was sooooo relaxing! Nice size pool and hydro pool and massive hot jacuzzi! My only gripe here was gutted they didn’t make the outside railings glass as you could sit in the jacuzzi and have an unobstructed view of the bay - I think the designer missed a trick here!! Yes you can sort of see out as the metal has holes but it would have been so much better to sit in jacuzzi and take in the whole view of the bay!! We had breakfast both morning and again the staff were so lovely and accommodating, especially the manageress who was super friendly, helpful and lovely! If I did have one small suggestion both morning our food was only warm not hot (always a problem keeping buffet food hot) so this could be looked into to! To be fair it was nothing to complain about as it was edible and nice could have just been hotter! Nice hot food selection, juices and yogurt a few croissants to choose from! Set us up for the day ahead! I cannot fault this hotel from the gorgeous room, friendly staff, spectacular location, we had the best trip!! Thank you to all staff who work tirelessly! Highly recommend!! If we were to return to Cardiff this is where without doubt we would choose to stay.

We went today and had a meal at the Saint Davids hotel to celebrate my mother’s birthday. Firstly, I’d like to say how kind and helpful staff were and the food was exemplary. However, I would also like to add that, although the hotel is five-star, it seemed to look very tired in certain areas and in need of a thorough clean and change of furnishings. In the restaurant, I noticed that the seat cushions has lots of stains on them which didn’t look very good. In the reception area the floor have definitely seen better days And needed a thorough clean because in certain areas it looked like it hadn’t been cleaned for awhile. As a disabled customer, I was particularly looking to see how easy things were for a wheelchair user, I went to use the disabled toilets, but found that manoeuvering my wheelchair in the disabled toilets was extremely difficult and indeed, it almost did not fit in the large cubicle, and sadly somebody had blocked the toilet, which made me wonder how often the toilets were checked. I did report this to reception and was told that it would be dealt with immediately. I cannot fault the staff, and like I said earlier the food was incredible, but certainly walking into what used to be an incredibly impressive hotel, I had expected a higher standard of cleanliness. I noticed that the large plants in the restaurant desperately needed a good dusting, they looked neglected and extremely tired, Even the chairs I felt needed to be replaced and updated, because they were wicker, They seemed to just look very tired. I would advise the management of the hotel to really open their eyes and see what I saw, lots of stains and blemishes on the floor and on the cushions in the restaurant. I was actually quite shocked, seeing so many stains on the cushions. It just looked extremely tired, out dated and in need of some TLC. We did enjoy our experience there in the restaurant because the food was so fabulous and the staff so friendly and helpful, it was these things that made our experience extremely pleasant, and obviously over the years, hotels do experience wear and tear, but considering this is a five star hotel, I had just expected things to be a lot cleaner, sharper and slick and span. The four areas that I would recommend the management take a really good look at are the reception floor, (especially by the lifts), the restaurant cushions which in my opinion needed replacing, and the extremely narrow turn that my wheelchair had to manoeuvre around in the disabled toilet's, and lastly the large cubicle for a wheelchair user which I found almost impossible to use. Admittedly my chair is larger than an average chair, but I would possibly recommend that you bring in somebody in a wheelchair to show you how tight it is in the cubicle. There seem to be plenty of room that could have been used to make that cubicle a lot larger. But I want to finish just by saying, that’s our experience on the whole was really great because of the quality of the food, and the quality of the service from all of the staff. It’s not their fault that the decor is tired, marked and out dated.

When we arrived, it was yet check in time, the staff at the reception were lovely and they helped us keep our bags safely which gave us the freedom to explore without the hassle of taking our bags everywhere. When we checked in the view was amazing, the direct sunlight in the morning kept hitting the room beautifully. Went to get my pedicure done, HEMA was very gentle with my feet and gave me a lovely experience. When I had my massage done by KANCHAN , it was a very relaxing experience. We chatted through the massage and I felt very comfortable. I would highly recommend! My experience at the Tir a mor restaurant is exactly what it is, An experience. From the person who receives you at the door and finds you a seat, one thing i really liked is how they ask to know your preference with your seating arrangement. When they come to take your order, they are able to offer you brilliant suggestions if request and a big compliment to the chef because i tried new meals i had never had and every thing tasted amazingly to my palette. It also lovely how they come around so often to ask if you need anything else to make your experience better. A big thank you to BRANDON (lovely personality) , LORETA (very welcoming) , ANDREW (gives brilliant suggestions on the menu and what to get), TOM (pays attention to details) and BRYANY (great personality) for giving us a lovely experience. Their level of professionalism is so amazing! My overall experience is a 5 out of 5, you definitely get value for your money and I would definitely recommend!
