stayed at this great hotel for birthday treat. Perfect position near to the theatre, town centre and river. Fantastic staff, very friendly and helpful, nothing too much trouble. Free glass of champagne and small carafe of port in the room. Lovely touch and flap jacks and superior toiletries.

The Town House Restaurant appears to be very popular although I cannot understand why. It is grossly overpriced, provides very small portions some of which were nicely presented and tasty and some were very poor. We were a party of four. An order of bream from the a la carte menu produced a piece of fish about 3ins by 2...

Maybe second visits are doomed to be disappointing, if the first one is excellent in all ways, as ours was. This time room 2 wasn't as nice as room 3, which we wanted but someone else got there first. There were some minor housekeeping issues: blind needed mending, dead lightbulb not replaced (after asking twice), breakfast yoghurt unavailable two days...

Have been here a few times with its charms a happy respite from much of the same old served out for lacklustre tourists across much of Stratford. Church Street Townhouse books the trend with a lovely bar, great food, fine staff and charming live music. One word of warning is that the bedrooms are getting ready for an upgrade. Still...

In 2013 I was still to be impressed. Now I would recommend this hotel without reservation. We stay here about 3 times a year. The staff couldn't be more friendly and helpful. The receptionist is practically family. The food is delicious. Just a little more waiting this time so that needs monitoring. It's locality 5 minutes from the theatre. Hotel...

Many excellences about this hotel. The size of our room, excellent: the condition of the room excellent (if a bit dark): the travellers storage allowed in the room, excellent (walk in closet + drawers): the design of the room and the hotel, excellent (this has been done by a theatre designer - so its 'theatrical') the food is great in...

Great start... two choices of real ale on pumps! Very unusual for restaurants to have it on tap in Stratford. Very tasty food, all three of us started with the crispy duck salad... really good. I followed with the calves liver which was cooked perfectly and served on a garlic mash. The staff were very friendly and the furnishings very...

We stayed here on a Saturday evening in July for a special theatre trip to Stratford. Luxury hotel, good sized rooms and bathrooms all tastefully decorated. We ate in the hotel restaurant before setting off to the theatre. Good menu with varied choice - we went for the a la carte rather than pre theatre menu . The staff were...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This recently refurbished boutique hotel is housed in a 400 year old listed building in the heart of Stratford upon Avon. Located opposite Shakespeare's school, among the ancient half-timbered buildings the town is famous for and only 2 minute's walk to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. This is THE place for a pre-theatre supper - local pianists play at 5.30pm daily and the atmosphere is great. The 12 funky en-suite bedrooms vary in size, cost and view. Try for a room at the front of the building for the perfect view. Great food is served all day, through till 10pm in this buzzy neighbourhood bistro with Afternoon Tea a particular favorite. Champagne Happy Hour is every Friday at 5pm and the bar is packed with a great, upmarket local crowd. The staff make the place and nothing is too much trouble. ... more   less
