You'll get a lot for your money at this hotel, with rooms having a luxury feel. Most of all all areas felt clean and properly sanitised which was extremely reassuring.

Loved that the bathroom had a heated mirror to avoid too much steaming up.

Minibar was well-stocked and reasonable and tea and coffee supplied was fantastic.

Breakfast seating was a little odd, as solo visitor I felt a little to close to other visitors for my liking. Room service is extremely limited in the late evening to a few sandwich choices which are expensive in relation to quality.

It is in a very central location so be prepared for street noise if, like me, you like to have fresh air coming in during the night. I heard noise all night and this was on a Monday, so be have this in mind or close the windows at night.

Reception staff all wonderfully friendly, restaurant staff could do with a little cheering up!

My partner and I stayed in this hotel on a Saturday and Sunday night while attending Newcastle to do the Great North Run. The hotel is centrally located and is opposite the train station.
We drove up and parked in the train station car park (£12 to park from friday 9:30am until Monday any time) having read about the hotels limited parking and expecting the hotel to be extremely busy.
The staff were really polite and friendly and we were checked in quickly and efficiently. There was a member of staff at the main entrance handing out bananas and fruit bars to the runners as we left on the Sunday morning which was a lovely touch and very much appreciated.
The room was well laid out and comfortable with everything that we needed in it. Good water pressure and hot water availability from the bathroom. As previous reviewers have said, the room was extremely hot, for some reason the heating was on full blast in both the bedroom and the bathroom which, for a hotel without air conditioning, seems very strange in the middle of summer. This meant sleeping with the window open which, given the location of the hotel, meant a bit of outside noise during the night.
All in all, we would recommend this hotel and will revisit if we’re back in Newcastle at some point.

Stayed at the County Hotel for 2 nights (Saturday & Sunday) as we were attending a wedding that was being held here. Hotel is conveniently located directly opposite central station which was great as I’d travelled down by train. We arrived well before the designated check-in time but the hotel had agreed in advance that our bags could be kept in their secure luggage store so we could head out for lunch. Arrived back at the hotel just before 3pm and were checked into room 230 very quickly. If you have mobility issues I would recommend you advise staff in advance, when we came out of the lift there were 2 small flights of stairs along the corridor to get to our room one approx 6 steps and the other 12 steps, which was ok for us but maybe not for other. We knew from the website that rooms weren’t huge but we weren’t planning to spend much time in it so it suited us fine. Room was clean, modern and well laid out. Tea & coffee making facilities were provided along with a mini fridge which was well stocked but we used it to store stuff we’d bought ourselves as prices were astronomical as you’d expect! We had breakfast both mornings which was lovely. You can help yourself to the full English buffet or if you’d prefer you can request something from the menu (all included in B&B rate) with choices such as Eggs Benedict, Eggs Royale, Eggs Florentine, Vegan/Vegetarian and continental options. We had an issue with the TV in our room on the Sunday evening and the lovely gentleman arrived within 5 mins of our call to try and fix it. He offered to change our room as he couldn’t fix the problem but as we were due to leave the following morning I didn’t see the point in any upheaval.

The staff in this hotel were excellent, very friendly and helpful

The only things that stop me giving this hotel 5 stars is the very uncomfortable temperatures in the room, they really would benefit from installing some form of air conditioning and the noise levels from outside. Obviously due to it’s location you’d expect some level of noise but I honestly didn’t expect it to be as bad as it was. Between the traffic noise and rowdy revellers it was approx 5am Sunday morning before I managed to get to sleep. The Sunday night wasn’t as bad with noise easing approx 1.30am.

Positives
It’s a great location
Clean
Warm

Negatives
(1st room)
Tiny and squashed into a very noisy high traffic area.
The tap placement meant you couldn’t really wash your hands.
Toilet seat was broken and dangerous if you have limited mobility or are unsteady.
Couldn’t connect to wifi.
Tv doesn’t work even after the staff came to fix it.

(2nd room)
Larger but so much louder. Even on the 4th floor all you can hear is the bar. At least we now had a working tv to drown out the sound a little. Without the tv on we had to wear ear plugs with headphones over the top to reduce the noise enough to sleep
Still no wifi!

£92 for a standard double is expensive for an below average room with poor facilities and noisy.

Just stayed at The County Hotel, in the Heart of Newcastle, for a night and was made to feel so welcome. The staff can not do enough to help you. Especially Marta Serafin, who made sure our stay was completely perfect, booking our table in the restaurant and telling us of the exciting food on offer for Restaurant Month.

The room was beautiful;you can feel a real sense of history in this historic building (an original fireplace in our room, and wonderful high ceilings and big heavy doors, so many original features).

The food was fantastic value as well as original flavours (the thia broth was light and refreshing). I only have pucures of our clear plates as it was so delicious!

All in all, a fantastic stay, creating lovely memories. Thank you County staff, we'll be back. xxx

This was my first overnight stay in a hotel since lockdown and The County did not disappoint. On checking in the receptionist went through the covid changes but in a very light touch way. I felt safe but not scared. My room was spotless and the bed was so comfortable. The hotel communal areas were constantly being cleaned so the hotel is taking sanitising very seriously.
Breakfast in Hudsons was great. Within 2 minutes of sitting down I had coffee, juice and toast and I had my cooked breakfast in less than 10 minutes. There is no buffet - only table service - but the portions were good and my breakfast was very good. Other customers also has their food brought quickly and the staff really tried to make this a good start to the day.
This was only an overnight stay but I will be back.

After being told no parking spaces(a car park for msybev12 vats is in jo way large enough for the size of this hotel)left and advised to use train station at £17 we googled and the multi storey one just up the road only cost us £3..

Check in took around 20 mins only one lady on the phone and we could hear other put the back in the end dhd called one through and if was then a few mins and we were in our room ..

Room was clean and big enough bathroom was huge bed was comfy and the room was warm..
Only strange thing was that our key car hac to go in a holder outside our room ..
Only complaint is for around 6am there was a kind of knocking/ tockinb sound everytime someone used shower/tap in rooms around us which kept waking us up..

Breakfast was great well cooked and the option of eggs cooked how you like them was a bonus ..

All in all would I stay here again yes for the price but I'd upgrade to a king sized bed room ..

We recently spent 1 night at the county hotel , the price was fine but expected a much better room for the price. It was really crammed and small , as was the bathroom. Also for the entirety of our stay the rooms were boiling and there was no temperature control option (unless you paid more). We had no window looking outside so couldn’t even open that to cool the room down , as it wouldn’t open.

The staff were really friendly and accommodating throughout , and the hotel was nicely decorated. In a great location as opposite train station and a short walk from the centre of Newcastle , it does have parking onsite which costs £10 for 24 hours - there is limited spaces but there was a few spare when we arrived.

Breakfast was included in the room cost which is good , had a full English in the Hudson bar which is part of the hotel. The food was nice but very long wait considering it wasn’t busy.

Booked this hotel as a lil surprise for the girlfriend for her birthday as it looked really good for the price and what you were getting with it, however upon arrival was charged with an extra £25 on top of the room for the mini fridge which we did use however wasn’t even stocked up with £25 worth of items after looking at the menu and how much the prices of the items inside were priced at. The room was really nice however apart from a few problems that we had such as the hair dryer didn’t work, the plug for the bath wouldn’t stay in so the water kept draining out and later in the night the bathroom and bedroom started to get covered with ants so we had to be relocated to another room at about 1 in the morning after complaining to the reception, the man who came to inspect the room was really nice and friendly and got our problem sorted right away, along with other staff members in the hotel who smiled and said hello whenever passing them in the corridor. However the 2nd room we got allocated to had the same problem with the bath where the plug would not stay in and the water kept draining away. Not only that but the shower curtain that was attached to the bath was also faulty and stuck so we weren’t able to have a shower either without the bathroom being soaked in water. The toilet seat was also fault and came off when sat down on it. The hotel was nice however with the problems that we faced I don’t think that it was worth the price that we paid for the room.

The hotel is beautiful and well appointed. Every staff member we met bent over backwards to help us. The two hostesses in the dining room during our visit on 12 Aug to 16 Aug 2022 were especially helpful. They helped me with my plate at breakfast even though I did not ask because they could see I was struggling due to my disability. Our junior suite was very nice. Unfortunately we arrived just as even the north of the UK was experiencing a heatwave. The room was warm on arrival. I asked about air conditioning and was told that the rooms in the classic part of the hotel did not have air conditioning (usually it would not have been needed), but the newer part of the hotel did have air conditioning. Those rooms would have required me to climb many steps and my disability did not allow that, so we stayed put. On the good side, there was a large room fan provided in the wardrobe. Once we opened the windows and had the room fan on, we were fine for the most part. We would have liked to have more still water in the mini bar and less tonic water or sparkling water. There are several places nearby to get food and other drinks as needed including a Sainsburys in the train station opposite the hotel. The only problem we had with the room was that the bathtub bottom was extremely slippery for a hotel bathtub. I had to be careful with my disabilities moving in the tub (I did not need a fully accessible room), even my husband found the bathtub very slippery. This was easily resolved by asking for a bathmat from reception. ONE SUGGESTION: Have a bathmat already present and obvious in the bathroom when arriving for safety reasons. We had both dinner and breakfast in the hotel and the food was quite good. The location was excellent being literally across the street from the train station. The other hotel we were considering said it was close to the train station but it was around the other side of the train station and a train station staff member said that it was hard to get to, so we were glad that the County Hotel was truly easy to get to from the train station. There was some noise from loud people on the street when the windows were open, but by the time we wanted to go to bed, it was cool enough to close the windows and we did not notice it so much. Highly recommend this hotel.
