Nice bedroom though not as awe-inspiring as expected.
Nice view. Creaking floorboards above spoiled my sleep on the Saturday night.
Do not assume that bed and breakfast includes access to The Jockey Club Rooms. They are private to members and their guests, occasionally open to overnight guests depending on circumstances.
If you like your scrambled eggs solid, your poached eggs flavoured with vinegar, luke-warm coffee and a choice of yogurts. (well, no, apricot only. Was it a job lot consignment ?) the Jockey Club is the place for you. And how do catering staff manage to present Full English Breakfast without any evidence that the food on your plate has touched a frying pan??
To the reviewer who used the adjective “unsurpassed” in describing breakfast l can only say,”Try the Couvent de Minimes in Lille. BANQUET comes to mind, though it’s some years since that experience and things may have changed. Or The Old Parsonage in Scawby, Lincolnshire.

I stayed two nights at The Jockey Club and was lucky enough to spend a pleasant Saturday evening in the lounge where a makeshift bar had been set up. The gentleman serving was indeed a gentleman.
Sunday night…..all was locked and barred!! Access only to bedrooms. Monday, after breakfast, l was advised only the breakfast room and my bedroom were accessible to me. Thankfully, l had managed to take photos of some important paintings and artefacts before l was escorted politely but firmly to the corridors which lead to the bedrooms.

We stayed for one night at The Jockey Club Rooms on Friday 29th April.
It’s an absolute privilege & an honour to be able to stay at essentially the HQ of racing - which is steeped in history & grandeur.
Our stay was faultless!
The room was lovely, the staff were extremely helpful and the breakfast was unsurpassable.
In addition, Mark gave us a personal tour of the rooms and gardens. We really enjoyed learning about the history of the art & also the racing curiosities!
Thank you Mark, you were fantastic!

We have stayed here four times. We love it.
The staff throughout are very well trained, courteous and polite. I am a racing enthusiast and my husband is an art lover so we are very happy to have found this special place to escape to. We coincided this stay with a trip to The Munnings Museum at Dedham and we had a great week altogether.

On this occasion I must praise Tom in particular. He was our barman and his level of service was excellent. We were having a drink in the bar with another couple we had met and Tom offered to give us a tour of the rooms. He was knowledgeable, humorous and we really enjoyed it.

Our room was on the first floor and overlooks the gardens and one of the training yards. Such a lovely comfortable, peaceful room with a large bathroom and lovely toiletries.

Breakfast in the coffee room is really beautiful made with quality fresh local produce. My favourite dish was the scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. The little jars of yogurt were also a favourite.

We highly recommend a stay here even if you are not into racing.

What a fabulous place, steeped in horseracing history and full of old world charm. The staff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble. Our room (room 8) was very well appointed, overlooking the beautiful garden, and was so quiet and serene. The toiletries were wonderful (from Asprey's) and the breakfast sumptuous, with a choice of cereals, continental breakfast and breakfast cooked to order. I didn't much like the bacon served with the cooked breakfast as it was smoked and very salty, but that's just me. I adored the Eggs Royale though which was top notch. The staff were kind enough to take us on a quick tour of the members' rooms, full of original paintings (including a very valuable Stubbs) of horseracing scenes) and interesting historical artefacts. It was wonderful. Being a lover of horses and horse racing, I felt privileged to be on such hallowed turf. The accommodation rates were very reasonable too. I 100% recommend!

This place is sheer class. We really enjoyed they stay as we were in gorgeous surroundings and everything is done properly. The service is with the highest of standards and we were treated to a very relaxing break. Our room was plush and created with good taste. The bathroom was beautiful and I woke up to seeing the horses doing their exercises. The breakfast was immaculate and looking round the building with all the horse racing memorabilia and state rooms was fascinating even if you are not an enthusiast. This place is a quality establishment.

What an excellent place! I am a very small boutique hotelier myself & not on the scale as The JC, but I can be quite fussy!

One night in the King's Suite, 24/11/2024.

The room was huge with a separate living area, and is traditionally furnished (we were not expecting a modern theme given the heritage of the hotel).

Everything was spotlessly clean, and the room had stunning views out towards the gardens. Massive shower, lashings of hot water and a very large bath. Beautiful toiletries.

Nice to have sash windows that you could open, as I do not like a hot room at nights.

Interesting history, and the walk to the breakfast room was inspiring, down long corridors adorning with racing memorabilia.

Lovely breakfast, freshly cooked.

There is no bar, and no evening restaurant, but there are a number of eateries and pubs a moments walk away.

A couple of minor issues or improvements IMO.

*No fresh milk (despite there being a fridge) - just two small sachets of UHT which is a real bug bear of mine! Also, a coffee machine would be nice as only sachet coffee available.

*Showing grouting in the lower half of the shower, needs cleaning.

*TV at the end of the bed did not work

*Skirting boards in the bathroom could do with a re-paint.

*Coffee for breakfast very weak.

The above did not detract from our stay and we will 100% visit again.

See you soon!

I visit this hotel for 1 night as I was in Newmarket for business. I had planned a meeting whilst in town and had hoped to meet at the Jockey Club as the hotel specified on their website that it is ‘ideal location for corporate events, meetings…’
Upon arrival I was told that there was no where to meet and I would have to find a cafe somewhere. I am very shocked they don’t even have a bar/ lounge area we could sit.
I was also really surprised that they did not have a restaurant even though their website specifies ‘indulge in exquisite cuisine’ so I had to walk down the high street and find somewhere to eat.
My room was lovely but the bed was very hard and I assume was 2 single mattresses pushed together as there was a very hard line down the middle.
The building is lovely with some interesting art work and good location but I wouldn’t stay here again.
I couldn’t find anyone upon checkout. No one to help me with my bags or say goodbye just a wooden box for my room key.
You are also asked for a £25 refundable deposit upon arrival even though I had paid £170 for my room. There was no mention of this when booking.

Dear Gheath90, Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. We are sorry to see that you were a little disappointed with your stay and that you were not able to have a meeting space or somewhere to have dinner. The website is correct we do offer these things, however they have to be pre booked. We don't have a dining room for everyday residents, however we do welcome private dinner parties and corporate events - again these are pre booked. Usually we are fully booked so its best to book in advance to secure a space. Please note that I will be taking up your comments about check out and the £25 deposit with the accomodation manager as this should have been explained to you at the time of booking. I hope that this did not spoil your stay overall. Best wishes, Christopher Ogston General Manager

Wow, wow, wow – what a fabulous place. My husband and I stayed for one night along with my elderly parents, who haven’t stopped talking about their stay. An incredible place steeped in racing history and with so many beautiful pictures and objects on display. The accommodation is also very clean and well furbished. Breakfast was a treat – so lovely to have beautifully laundered table linens and good crockery and cutlery, which certainly matched the quality of the food. Extremely efficient and pleasant breakfast staff. Absolutely loved that there was a dress and mobile phone code – please don’t relax your standards – it really was the icing on the cake. Last but not least special thanks to Accommodation Manager, Terry Lockwood who was helpful, pleasant and very efficient from the time of initial enquiry to our leaving. Our only regrets are that we don’t live nearer as if we did it would be a regular ‘get away’ and secondly that with all these fabulous reviews it will get too popular. Despite the distance we intend to return.

Unexpectedly welcomed a new grandson into the world a little early, needed somewhere to stay close to new family without crowding them. Booked The jockey Club rooms with 2 days notice. From talking to the lovely lady on the phone to arrival and 4 day stay it just worked. I was offered a room in the Town House as it was the only option as no rooms available in the main building. I think the Town House is considered a second cousin to the more lavish rooms in the main building and you do leave through the big gates and walk along the High Street a short way to enter. However it was perfect. I had the whole place to myself, amazing bedroom come apartment, wonderful bed, large bathroom, windows that open! Downstairs gave a kitchen, sitting room with large TV plus a formal dining room, not that I needed that! I took advantage of being bang on the High Street to enjoy a variety of take away meals with the kitchen there to warm plates, use cutlery and glasses etc. My rooms were serviced each day and breakfast was delightful in a magnificent setting surrounded by amazing equine racing history. Thank you for providing me with a little sanctuary to retreat to after a day of being house fairy for my daughter, her husband and new baby. 😊
