We stayed at the Black Lion in Long Melford as we were there for a friends wedding. The hotel was walking distance from the venue and village centre which was good. We were disappointed by the size of our room, which was small and the only place to sit was on the bed. The room was far too hot and...

Starting with the positives - the staff are nice and welcoming, in particular the Spanish senior staff member who was charming. The breakfast was really good, the location is great. The hotel is warm, homely and un-precious. I'm a big fan of "shabby chic" but the Black Lion lost that status a long time ago. The room needs a thorough...

I can't say we had a bad meal, but for the prices I expected something more interesting. Service was slow but the staff were polite and attentive. I haven't stayed in the hotel as I'm local, so I have no experience of the rooms. However, the dining areas and general appearance of the building is that it requires a huge...

I had lunch in the restaurant last Saturday and chose the roast turkey. I was disappointed with the only vegetable being Brussels Sprouts and as they were hardly cooked at all found them really inedible. I am very surprised that the chef apparently thinks it is acceptable to serve rock hard sprouts, which never should be viewed as "al dente"...

Dear Guest, Can I send my apologies for your disappointment in the lack of vegetable choice and the way they were cooked. I have passed your comments on to the kitchen team and all feedback is welcomed. Best Wishes

We have just returned from a Secret Escapes dinner, bed & breakfast deal of which we have done several all around Suffolk and this hotel needs some serious TLC to keep up with its competitors. Although I cannot speak highly enough of the staff and service first impressions really count and we were greeted by shabby hotel signs and a...

Arrival went smoothly with a friendly welcome and the great news of an upgrade for us which went down very well! The deal we had booked was explained clearly which made for a relaxing time. The room was in actuality a suite following the upgrade and it was tastefully decorated and warm despite the weather outside. The restaurant was really...

I stayed here with my Mother (88) for three nights and we were extremely well looked-after, from our arrival to our departure. From altering the room my aged parent was staying in as it was top floor, to supplying her with a duvet, nothing was too much trouble and all carried out with stellar customer service. Nikki has to be...

Lovely welcome at the Black Lion Hotel with us able to access the room early. Room attractively decorated and named after a wine as were all the rooms. Each room is individual and furnished with good quality antiques. Our four poster bed was a good size but needs attention to the noise made by the frame when you get in...

We had dinner here as were in the area and I had had a nice lunch a couple of years ago. The dining room really does need a bit of a face lift and the table mats need replacing. There is shabby chic and there is shabby. The menu sounds very edgy and modern but it really doesn't deliver. The...
