The stay at the Premier Inn itself was fine as usual, clean room, comfortable bed, helpful staff etc. You know what to expect. However the pre-booked breakfast at the next door Brewers Fayre was a complete shambles. I know with Covid that catering establishments have had to adapt to changed working methods, but this means they may now need to invest in more and better trained staff. On ordering breakfast we were told there was no marmalade available and we were offered blueberry jam as a possible alternative How can an establishment providing hundreds of breakfasts each week run out of marmalade? We ordered the full English, croissant, blueberry jam and a drink On a seemingly not particularly busy Saturday morning it took over an hour to produce that cooked breakfast. With it came the jam(blackcurrant!) but no croissant. We waited in vain for its appearance, but it never came It was just as well we were not on a tight schedule as this is not something that one usually expects during a stay at a Premier Inn. Now unable to help yourself to refills of tea, coffee and other drinks people are reliant on there being sufficient staff to cater for this new way of breakfast service. Adequate staff there were not, we left rather thirsty asking for the missing croissant on the way out. Overall a very disappointing experience and one which I trust was a one off and not an indication that Premier Inn standards are falling.

Even will social distancing measures in place all the staff at the hotel and pub are doing an amazing job. I have stayed there weekly for almost 12 months (lockdown being the exception) and won’t stay anywhere else. Premier inns are pretty much all the same by design, but this one has the people working there that makes the difference.

The staff very friendly so helpful and attentive to our needs or requests Rebecca who was on desk nearly all our stay went out of her way to help with everything from handing out teas, and coffee for our rooms to bringing our little ones ice cream to our room that had been missed from our order always smiling and cheerful I would recommend staying here nice clean quiet rooms and the food from the restaurant is beautiful. Thank you to Rebecca and her team from me and out family.

We have stayed at many Premier Inns and we always expect them to be of the same standard, sadly the Spitfire did not quite equate to those standards. COVID wise all the same restrictions and guidance was given to us and we felt we were safe within the Premier Inn. The room (second floor 217), Premier Inn advertise the comfort of their beds, and generally throughout the group you would find a great and comfy bed, sadly this was not the case. The bed sounded like it was near collapse, it made a terrific creaking noise on any movement, the mattress was "saggy" to say the least and whilst I love my husband I don't want to spend all night rolling into the middle of a bed to meet him! Bathroom was usual well appointed but water pressure in basin and shower woefully poor, at one point in the shower it literally went to a dribble of water...... These two things made the experience slightly poorer than our usual stay, I am sure just changing the bed would improve the stay completely for someone.
