Stayed on a cold weekend in Feb, but we were plenty cosy here. Smallish room but perfect for two needing a bed for the night. Quirky, traditional decor and super comfy bed and pillows. Thoughtful selection of tea and coffee in the room and a lovely fresh breakfast in the morning - as a veggie I appreciated their approach to...

My husband gave me a voucher to use on my birthday - dinner, bed and breakfast. Downside having to go outside in the rain up steep steps. Small room but extremely comfortable bed and high quality pillows, duvet, sheets. Gorgeous Neals Yard toiletries. Maintenance needs attention - for instance, some plumbing for the shower looked liked it had been put...

Bearing in mind that this was a tasting menu it should highlight the skills of the kitchen and the quality of ingredients in the hope of attracting further business. Butternut Squash Soup. Quite ordinary with a sprinkle of fresh thyme, would have been better it it had been hot, just better than luke warm presented in an old style cup,...

4 of us went with a Travelzoo voucher which sounded a really good deal. Firstly we were shown straight to our seats not allowed to have a drink at the bar first, given the menu which read very well, ordered our wine and drinks and the food started to arrive soup in a cup and saucer, cup not full, quickly...

Stopped over in Wells on a long journey south and attended Evensong in the magnificent Cathedral to experience the wonderful choir! The White Hart completed an excellent stopover with a very modern room in an ancient hotel. The bed was comfortable and the amenities first class. Breakfast a real treat.

Drive one and a half hours to try the tasting menu which on the website looked great, scallops, beef etc. Problem was it was a completely different menu, No fish but a smooth pate in place, no beef but a miniscule portion of pork. The lemon posset to finish was however excellent. There were two other diners in the dining...

Friendly and helpful staff, comfortable beds, nice and warm and a good breakfast. The hotel building is very old and therefore has creaky floorboards and quirky nooks and crannies. The bathroom was in need of an update but was functional and had plenty of hot water. The location is great and free parking, although extremely tight, a real bonus (I...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Recently taken over by new owners (September 2015) the 15th century White Hart Hotel is situated in the city centre just 10 short steps from the famous Cathedral. Its 15 en suite bedrooms make the perfect base from which to explore Wells and the surrounding area. The restaurant serves locally sourced British food cooked by Head Chef Matthew Briddon (River Café). Wells is a medieval city nestling on the southern side of the Mendip Hills with the mystic Somerset Levels stretching away to the south and west. The history of Wells goes right back to Roman times when it was known that there was a settlement, probably because of the springs that bubble up here. Wells gets its name from these springs which can today be found in the gardens of the Bishop's Palace. Bristol, Bath, Glastonbury, Glastonbury Tor, Cheddar, Clarks Village, Wells Golf Club and Longleat are all close by. ... more   less
