Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Four of us went for lunch one Sunday. The staff were welcoming, friendly, and efficient, The menu showed plenty of choice, including vegetarian options. We were not rushed, even though it was quite busy. Will definitely return when next in the area.

we were atracted by out side, but beware all is not as it seems. The mirrors in the twin room were loose no replenishment of tea tray? from the last person. Bathroom ok with underfloor heating. Beds were not comfy with a topper and thin mattress. Breakfast was hit and miss with no breakfast table to choose and the choice was very limited. the evening meal was ok. My advice is to avoid this place as the owner admitted she was selling.

9 in the family went for Sunday lunch and it varied. The plates were cold and hence so was the food. The beef was chewy, the veg was mixed in dishes so if you didn't like any of it you had to pick through and it had an average taste, also not hot. However some liked the pork. Roasties not crisp, soggy and seemed to have been waiting some time for us to eat them. We won't be returning for food but the beer was good

Limited menu choice (though it was a Sunday) so you’d be struggling if you don’t like roasts! That aside, we found the food (particularly the gravy) very salty, meat very tough, vegetable selection lacked basic imagination and it was frrreeeeezzzing where we sat, with mock flames in the log burner! Such a shame as we have previously had good experiences on a number of occasions.

Warm welcome , we stayed here for three nights as we had a wedding near by . Room was at the back . No noise from Road. Room very cute. Breakfasts every morning were spot on . Had Friday evening meal Fish and chips superb. Sunday lunch was a disappointment meat was tough and the roast potatoes the tiniest i have ever seen on a plate. Portion size small . The breakfast more than made up for this. I would stay here again. Clean and comfortable.

This was a return visit following successful visits in the past. This time however I was very disappointed with the lunchtime menu which was uninspiring and frugal. The lasagne I had was without doubt the worst I have ever tried to eat. It was dry, very sweet and the "bechamel" was solid, served with sourdough garlic bread and a little wilted salad. I would be loathe to recommend this establishment to anyone after our last visit.

Response from Matt Jenneson, Owner at The Salwey Arms

Hello Jan - Thank you for taking time to leave this review. Our lunchtime menu features a choice of sandwiches, as well as Honey Roasted Ham, Chicken Caesar Salad, and a Ploughman's Platter. Alongside this menu we also offer our Restaurant menu. Whilst we have trimmed this menu slightly, it does have a choice of 9 Starters or Nibbles and 10 main course options. Often there will be a daily specials board available too. Sorry that the Lasagne was not to your liking - it has been a staple on our menu for some time. Hopefully we will see you again.

Unfortunately we were greeted at the door by a lady who told us she had been waiting for us and all the starters were ready. It was 12.25 and we had booked a table for 12.30? No hello or pleased to see you? We were then led into the dining room and the lady kept complaining to us. What a greeting! We should have left then, but we had family travelling from all over the country for the meal. The starters arrived, soup was ok, although because the food had obviously been kept under heat the butter was like liquid and dripped all over my sister in laws top, potted pork ok however the prawns were not as expected. The overview stated king prawns and what arrived was obviously frozen small prawns, sitting on a bed of tasteless over floured ? (not sure what to call it). Two of the party had the salmon risotto which was completely in inedible. Both of us were physically sick with just the small amount we ate. Not a good journey home. The Christmas puddings were sent back as they were cold? The only positives were the company, the room with a fire we sat in and the coffee. We did have meals removed from the bill, however still paid over £300.00 for extremely poor food and inexcusable customer service. Very disappointed.

We are sorry you did not enjoy your meal with us on Saturday. We did try to address these issues at the time. I would point at that a booking of 12 on a busy Saturday before Christmas, that has provided a pre-order for arrival at 12, causes problems for the kitchen, front of house and other diners when the last member of the party does not arrive until nearly 1pm. If I was rude, I apologise. Kind regards Sue

Stayed here for a night on business. I booked a deluxe double room and I must say that it was very nice. Spacious, nice decor and comfortably furnished. Large bathroom with a stand alone roll top bath. Although if you prefer a shower, it is difficult as there is obviously no screen or curtain, so you have to use the attached shower head, which isn't so easy and you cannot help but get water on the floor. Not a deal breaker for me though, as I indulged in a deep bath instead! However, unfortunately, the property is situated right on the junction of a busy main road. The soundproofing is poor and as a consequence, there was a lot of noise from the road. This disturbed my night and made it impossible to sleep past around 6am. On the positive side, the pub/restaurant area downstairs is really nicely done out. It has a decent selection of drinks, including beers on tap. The breakfast was included with my stay and was really good - hot, fresh, tasty and plentiful. I also ate lunch there, which again, was very good. The staff too, were great - friendly, professional and courteous, with good service. Unfortunately though, the noise in the room and disturbed sleep means I have had to mark it down, sorry!
